I think it takes a special setup for dual cable on the old inlines. I have the setup for the v6 Mercs if you want to modify the bracket. Are the hole drilled in the front of the mounting bracket to even bolt it on?

They didn't have holes for the 2nd cable. The 2nd tube went in front and you had to take off the nuts on each end of the tilt tube........

Here's a picture of the setup I have for an inline 6 merc. I bought the second tube from an inline 6 genius in MN. They are fairly scarce. I don't think people know that, and likely many get thrown out. There is a part number and I have it somewhere, I'll try to find it. I don't believe that the part number was on the tube at all. It's really quite a simple part, so it could be easily fabricated.
As for the tiller arm dual steering link bracket, I actually got that when I bought another boat so I can't help with any part numbers or sources lol

For the linkage arm, I believe you need the one shown in post #10 here:

thanks again starviper10
that is the stuff i have already
much newer setup
mine is much older the transom clamp is way different
i have no holes in the transom clamp just 2 grease zirk fittings in the tilt tube
i would think merc had to have a set up for this starboard cable style set up
just cant seem to even find a pic of one yet

on the front of this BP is an original Mercury brand steering tube for a second steering cable. they had a cable coming in from each side. it was called a tension/compression system. one cables link arm was adjusted out against the other until all steering slack or play was eliminated. any of the original, dual cable Mercury steering parts & pieces were called they're "Super Ride-Guide" system parts. Dual racks, extra long gear & bolt at the helm to connect the dual racks, dual cables, the add-on clamp bracket steering tube for the second cable, and the hardware connection parts to connect to the tiller arm with a second steering link arm. hope this helps.
