the issue was the female connector in the wiring harness wasn't making good contact on the pins in the CDM. I tightened all the pins up a tad, replaced the spark plug on the cylinder, the plug wire coming off the CDM and away it fired.

That's the engine trying to figure out what you are doing, in normal running, should be fine.

Wow a junior mechanic called it.....Had a friend just a few days ago same engine same prob same fix...I guess as these EFI 3.0's get older they need more connector attention.

Took the boat out this week and ran some fuel through it, ran good for the most part. Have a quick question:

When I started the starboard motor Cold right off the trailer it had one sneeze or backfire right after it fired up but didn’t do it again at all and the motor purred and idled right at 600rpms and hit high rpms. Should I be concerned about anything? I have in line fuel flow monitors and noticed this engine was using less fuel than the port engine per hour. How can you tell if you are running to lean?

A little back ground, I adjusted throttle linkage and roller cam per spec in the manual. I also adjusted the tps to dead on at 3.80 volts at idle.(for some reason my tps is backwards) and rechecked idle.

Usually a sneeze is caused by a lean condition. Can blow out the pulse fuel pump when it does it.

That, i'm not sure about. Most EFI motors don't tend to sneeze.

The weird thing is it did it only once when it was cold and sounded great the rest of the day.

I am going to start it again on muffs and see if it does it again.

in the meantime if anyone has any suggestions let me know.

Did it die right after, they can stop just after spark and it is a sneeze but only from the engine stopping some of the pressure just came back out the intake.

No it didn’t die, sneezed and just had a steady idle at 600rpms and hit the high rpm range good the rest of the day.

Sometimes they happen, misses also happen quite often just because.

Check for damage and carry on, a few in a row or every start that’s a problem.
