A boy and his boat .....

My wife took this pic over the weekend, my 12 year old took her and his little brother over to a sandbar.

At this point he was making sure his vessel was anchored perfectly. It’s an almost 50 year rowboat. It’s beat up, it ain’t pretty, but to him.....it’s gold. He loves his boat, takes care of it like it’s a brand new Skater and takes a lot of pride in being able to captain it.

Made me realize ...we all probably started the same way.....a beat up rowboat we thought was the best boat in the world!

proud of the kid for all the effort he puts into it!

I wish I started in that. I had a 12ft plastic flat bottom with trolling motor ,then finally got a 9.9 for it , which was to much and they made me take it off. Guess I was 12 or so to

The elderly neighbor, 2 doors down, gave me my first boat; a 10’ homemade wooden rowboat when I was 12. We lived on the upper Cheasapeake Bay. I put my grandfather’s 3 1/2 hp Evinrude on it (single cord rewind). When the motor would act up on me, I would just row it for about a mile up into the marsh to explore. That was the beginning, and it still continues today.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.

Way to go, Dad! You are doing it right. No video games out on the sandbar. And a 12 year old takes his Mom anywhere?--Just wonderful.
    Per Rock:

"Once I bought my first Hydrostream boating changed forever for me."

    Per my hero Instigator:

"I try not to let common sense interfere w/my boat buying decisions."

OMG- do you remember that George? We cut into that transom and were like....oh boy, this thing is paper mache! Then Finn asked if he should get a mallet to check for soft spots. I still remember the three of us lifting it into the back of the truck when it was done...good times!
