    Question 2001 150 Opti, Injectors Don’t Open?

My boat with twin 150 Optis sat on the lift for two years and now port engine runs great but starboard cranks but won’t start.

Fuel rail has pressure but injectors have only 1/2 volt going to them.

Crank position sensor had about five volts feeding it. I pur an ohm meter on it and cranked and got nothing. Is that a valid test? Rust under flywheel?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check the air pressure should be 10 psi less than fuel at the rail.....just a guess...

Air and fuel pressure seemed ok but I think air might have been 5psi higher. Something is keeping the injectors from opening. Not even a spit or sputter. If I drip some gas in the intake it fires right up and dies.

If air is higher then fuel cannot enter the combustion chamber. Your fuel is restricted, or press low.

I’ll have to check those numbers again but I think the real issue is the injectors are not opening

Ecm fires the injectors. I think if the coils are showing spark. The injectors should receive the same crank sensor signal. Unlikely that all injectors are stuck. Check the harness plug connection that is at rear of the top coil plate. There is 3 fuses in a holder that is attached or near the ECM that you should check. Looks like a relay. Pull apart to access fuses. Your i dont need a mechanic certification card is valid. What i am implying is you said the other motor runs. ECM first because it only takes 10 mins to swap. Next i would try the complete coil plate and harness. Also a 10 min swap to see if it helps. Rails and injectors are a little more of a job that needs a little know how to swap. not sure if you should continue there without help. If no coil spark or injector pulse. Crank sensor that mounts near flywheel is the part to swap.

    Thanks Dave,

Next time i go to the boat ill swap ECMs and test fuel/air pressure. Is there a fuel pressure regulator on this motor?

Yes. The fuel regulator is in the rail. Air regulator also in rail. If you get any fuel mist out of schrader valve on the air rail. That is sign of bad diaphram.

    Thanks, I’ll look for mist.

I installed a Walbro high pressure fuel pump. I hope that isn’t causing my problems.

While you have the fuel psi you can do a fuel leak down. You want it to drop to 10-20psi and hold at least 10psi. If it doesn’t drop or drops low you have a clog or leak.

Thanks, how exactly do I go about that?

Bring the pressure up and just let the gauge hang out and check it in a hour or so 3-4 beers while chatting with friends.

I’ve been doing a little poking around here and both engines have pressure in the fuel rails. I put 12 V directly to both high pressure fuel pump’s and I can hear them spin. I put voltage to both low pressure fuel pump’s and they only click. Are they junk?

If both click but one runs good then nope. And if your getting 90psi fuel at idle it’s unlikely unless pressure drops under rpm. I forget currently if the low is piston or trash type piston will only click trash spin. If you get 30-40 on the vst schrader the low pumps at least working enough to pressurize to the high.

Just noticed something. Crank sensor should be 300 ohm cranking or not plus or minus a few. If it’s 0 and you sure you tested it correctly then that will be the problem.

The injectors also wont fire till the backfill for the air side is done. which the cps tells the computer the crank rotated enough for the pistons to pump air into the air side.

Do you get a RPM signal while cranking? May have to crank for 10 seconds. If no. CPS is bad.
