If you look in any fat block xr4 they look the exact same way.

As you've guessed, I love these old 2 strokes too. This H2/Mach IV is my 1974 street drag build - 161 hp at the crank from 750cc Stage III by Snowmobile race builder Darren Abrahams (DRE). Two words.....Bad Idea! The old school tires were no match to the modern "monster ports" this piston ported H2 passed through it's holes. I designed and built my own extended swingarm, expansion chambers, and all restoration for this bike. Gordon

Guys, the sleeve is blocking all of the ports on the other side by the same amount that you see in the photos. The sleeve openings are exactly the same widths as the cast ports, so the obstructions are worse than see. I don't have a camera that will take the backside - you'll have to trust me.

Even the slots under the piston don't line up with the "twisted sleeve" - it's coming out. Thanks for the inputs. I thought you guys would be as shocked as me. Gordon

    Mis aligned sleeves 2.4L

I bought a boat had a 2.4 ran great for a awhile then had a problem with pistons and pulled a head and saw a similar sight. One port is about 20% off with the sleeve. If this is factory or even work of a so so machine shop.....how much mis alignment is allowable. I was given a price of 250 a hole to remove and resleeve. If they were like that from the factory is it even worth straightening the sleeves out? I have 3 that are off some one is about like the OP pictures.

yep i spent a ton on trying to get the sleeves to not spin in the block(thats every early xr4 i got a hold of ) unfortunately it did not stop till it got to the fat block stage, run it for get it you can most differently turn sleeves in the block by heating them back up to 450 or so for a hour it will spin in the hole

A buddy’s 3.0 Merc overheated so bad the sleeve turned almost closed the transfer ports completely. We slid the piston out heated the sleeve with oxygen/acetylene I stuck a screen driver in the port and rotated the sleeve back. Honed it and installed new piston he’s got abour 50hours on it and he’s not easy on it.
