I like the alien canopy (specially on the 200xs), I think the ugliness started with the four strokes - the 115 to 150... and now they have sort of continued that with the v8. The E-TEC G2 looks nice.
Some things grow on you and some things remain ugly forever... Time will tell! (I don't like the newer Outerlimits etc because of their striping ruins the lines).
Would you buy an ugly car because it has a beast of an engine?Last edited by aeneas; 06-16-2019 at 10:03 AM.

At least with the G2 you can buy custom color panels................LOL! There is too much vanity in looks these days. But whatta you gonna do? You buy the new stuff............yer stuck.
I am definitely intrigued about a huge bore 3 cylinder 150hp mota. Its got to be lighter than everything else. I am surprised that its weighing in @390. That's v6 crossflow weights.......but with half the cylinders. I was hoping to hear 320-325lbs. For an outboard, those bores make a true big block outboard. Watch modern 2 stroke technology revert back to the big block days. How about a 4" piston in an outboard? Torque wont be an issue. How much power will they be able to squeeze out of a 2cyl with the same bore and stroke as this 3 cylinder? You know they are already working on it.
But oh yeah, I forgot, everything's going 4 stroke...................hmmmmmmmm!

Let's hope!! That will make these engines as light as their crossflow predecessors..........no more weight penalty. well, actually there is no weight penalty now when this weighs the same and makes the same power. That would be something if it comes in lighter.............then its a weight savings.....based on hp........not on number of cylinders.

IF this 150 is less than 400 lbs, I'd seriously be looking to repower my Merc 115 ProXS. It really doesn't have much low range grunt. With a 19p prop on it, I can do wheelies and donuts with the bow sky high, and it pops on plane. With a 26p prop, it bogs slow and takes a few seconds to get on plane. Mid range power is good - but I personally have not hit any rev limit with the ProXS. I've hit 6500/6700ish jumping out of the water, and with the low pitch props on accident just flooring it in chop. I think in my VesselView, I have the option to turn the rev limiter on or off. (I could be wrong) but I vaguely remember seeing that option.
If BRP does the 115ProXS vs their 115HO, that's not fair. The 115HO is not really a 115hp motor. It's a 150hp detuned. That's like taking a 572 big block, giving it a 3000rpm limiter, and doing tug-of-war with a Honda civic.
The 115ProXS is at the top of it's game - it's also a 70hp and a 90hp motor.
NOW - If you put the bigfoot case on the ProXS, you get a bigger advantage, but it's still not going to come close to the low end grunt that the 115HO will have.
Someone buy one, come to new England, and i'll do a pull-test against my ProXS. Hell, my Force120 has more low end grunt than my ProXS 115 haha.1) 1995 14' Bayliner Restoration <--Click

Food for thought - Pull the cover off a Merc motor, then pull the cover off a BRP. Tell me which one you would rather work on.
For me - the Merc is WAY easier, and engineered better for the mechanic (not that I want to work on my new motor).
Side by side comparison, I've had owners let me look under their brand new BRP rudes, and OH - EM - GEE Good luck getting a wrench in anywhere in there. There's no room for mice to crawl around inside, no room for wrenches, and you have to remove 5 things just to take 1 thing off. Not user friendly in my book.1) 1995 14' Bayliner Restoration <--Click

I hear ya on working space. But I am a two stroke guy. I'd pay that penalty for this. I also am sold on the two stroke having a torque advantage because its in a power stroke every other stroke............not every forth stroke. This "big block" bore is very intriguing to me. It further makes a torque advantage beyond the 2stoke advantage already inherent to the motor..........and light. That's really relative to me. A 150hp motor under 400 lbs....GREAT! The crossflows were light.............390. But then that modern 390-400 lbs motor is only 3cylinders...........DOH! To me, that is what makes it like a big block of the 60's but in 3 cylinders........and for an outboard. A 400lb 3 cylinder!!!

A lot of weight could have been saved on the ProXS Cowling and covers. The freakin top cover is like 25-30lbs. The plastic must be 3/16" to maybe 1/4" thick. It's ridiculous. I wish the cowls were made a little cheaper, like Honda Accord bumpers.
Body panels should be cheap and replaceable, like modern cars. Save weight!1) 1995 14' Bayliner Restoration <--Click

Lot more interesting than a 65k 450hp 600 pound engine. That graph with the torque curves really interests me. If we had a dealer that sold and serviced e rudes locally I might be a buyer.
