Ford techs please.....
I need s cheap work car and I’m a big fan of the Fusions.
Budget won’t support current era but Im a big fan of previous era too.
Im looking at a ‘2010 V-6 auto w/a 160k-ish miles.
What goes first and how expensive???
Talked to a tech today who told me of a 8 hr flat rate, $1200 water pump job on a 3.5 Taurus 😳
All input/advice is much appreciated!
GaryI'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

I bought one for the wife in 2012 or 13 and it was a great car. One of my closest friends is a Ford tech and he told me they have issues with the inside door handle on the drivers side. Said it would puke at about 100,000 miles and he was not far off. Other than the handle it was a lot like a Toyota. Nothing fancy just keeps running. Good luck.

Son got his wife a 2014 fusion, standard 4 cyl.. Been a great car with only the battery replaced. They do have a couple of recalls to do. Steering nut on wheel, and air bags? Nothing drastic though. The fit and finish is good. Interior has no squeeks or rattles. Seats are not the most comfortable lmo.

[I]I like the way rock says ..."like a toyota"...as much as I would like to buy American...all the time...I just want to drive the damm thing...I really dont want to be under the hood repairing it all the time....go for a corolla....it just happens to be the most reliable car ever made...the easist car to repair if you had too. Just a mechanics 2cts worth. The 2006-2012 are affordable. It's a damm shame but just the way its happened

That's your opinion. I have had a lot of Fords and they have been perfect. Crapola's are not immune to repairs. Come back to reality and stop going along with the yota's are superior mentality. They are not.

I have a 2010 Mazda 5, it shares a motor with Ford, it's got almost 300,000 miles on it. Ive only changed the brakes twice, tires, full synthetic oil every 15k miles, and thats it. Now the clutch on the a.c. compressor is going bad as of a couple days ago. But thats it. I drive alot too. I cant ask for much more.

I have driven Fords ever since I bought the wife a new Monte Carlo. My folks drove Chevys up to that point also. After 17 trips to shop in less than a year I told Chevrolet to fix or exchange the Monte or my entire family would never own another. Well they didn't believe me and my folks went to Toyota and I chose Ford. My mother drives one about 30,000 then buys a new one. I have access to her "used" vehicle so when the timing is right I by mom's old cars. Never had an issue with a Toyota or had to repair anything on one even though it's not my first choice of vehicle.

Talking about 2 different generations above here guys. The 2010 and the 2013 and up are very different. Up to 2012 the 3.0 V6 and Ford transmission (not the Aisin) were pretty much bullet proof. The trans cooler lines rot, rear wheel studs fail in high corrosion areas, and the all wheel drive versions had driveshaft issues, but all pretty affordable for common concerns. General maintenance will be your only real concerns, one of the best cars on the road impo.
Edit: yes, the inner door handles fail. But you can pull on the lock instead of the handle and it operates the same. If you have one you'll know what I mean lolLast edited by idvette; 06-14-2019 at 10:10 PM.

I've been a Chevy/ GMC guy for the longest and have had very good results, cars and truck ,,,, until I got the 2012 Sierra flex fuel with afm junk , I'm not sure which direction I'm gonna go next but I do know I do NOT like new Chevy trucks at all ,and or anything that has a v8 and runs on 4cyl at times , motor suppose run on all its cyl not half. I'm very disappointed/ pissed with the current truck, just so die hard Chevy my whole life I cant see me buying a Ford, maybe a dodge if they fixed tranny issues. Bottom line , none of em built like they used to

Hemi’s also shut in off cylinders now, and problems. Do yourself a favor and go drive a 2018 up 150 with the 5.0 and it’ll be easy to make up your mind.

Was a Ford Tech/Foreman for most of my working life. Retired 2010.
It's going to be hard to buy any vehicle with a lot of miles on it and have it trouble free, that said the Fusions I saw come through our dealerships were good cars.
Gary, have your ford friend run the vin number through fords OASIS to pull up the cars work history, this will only be ford repairs but will give you an idea of what your looking at.
Merc2.5,
My wife bought a new 2018 Silverado crew cab, 5.3 1/2 ton 4X4 Z71 LT about 1-1/2 year ago. Amazing truck. The 8cyl to 4 cyl feature is flawless and we avg 16-17 mpg city, 22 hwy...No BS. And I live in the "Hills of Tennessee", so a flat lander will likely do better.
I was leery of the 8 to 4 cylinder feature because I remember and worked on GM cars back in the mid late 70's. It was not a good working system back then.
Rent a new one for a couple days before you condem the new trucks....That's what we did and we bought one.
It did take a few thousand miles to break in and loosen up.James H. W2F a V-King... Want 2 Fly a V-King

Thx for all the input guys.
Heading our in mins w/$4k cash to buy something.
When Ford came out w/the earlier era Fusion, I thought they hit it out of the park.
I bought a load ‘15 new and it was bad ass!
BMW performance and finish at a Ford price.
That Car is gone and w/my self imposed $4k budget I am finding clean ‘09 - ‘12’s.
I want the 4 banger for the mpg’s.
Looks like +5, at least, from worst to best.
Lots of great cars at that price but I really like the looks of the fusion compared to the others. It has character.
Also finding a lot of VW Jetta’s. Have owned six or so vee wees and always liked them. I prefer the lines of the fusion though but would buy either.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

BTW, 100% agreed w/W2F on the GM trucks.
Just bought a ‘15 w/45k on it and love it.

PS, Gorilla, the Mazda 3 and 6’s would be on my A list but up here, they all rust out around rear wheel arches
