Merc Fuel Pump - Amazon Buyer BEWARE
So I'm standing in the balmy new England sun today, sweating my ass off fixing my in-law's boat so he can carry the beer cooler, and I can go fast this summer...
I tear down the pump, notice I can't find the round rubber check valve diaphragm parts... start looking on the ground all around, in the bilge, start swearing... where the F did they go?
So I tear open package #2... NOPE, not in there either... I look in package #3... not in there either!!!!
I have NEVER heard of a fuel pump kit NOT including the check valve round rubber diaphragms. MOTHER FU&*(#)(*$)%(@#$(*&!!!!!!!!
WORST PART? I ordered 3 of the damn things. I needed 2, and one to put on the shelf. They were only $15 on Amazon.
I almost thought about trying to run it with just the plastic wafers and no rubber diaphragms....
Anyone Else had this problem?
Long story short.... DO NOT ORDER "EMP" (engineered marine parts) fuel pump kits.
Here is what's missing:

Oh man, I just installed that kit in a 135. Weird because it didn't have the rubber ones in there when I took it apart. So i just replaced everything that was there, It was like 95 degrees and I was rushing. Didn't even notice, and this wasn't my first fuel pump.
Weirdly enough, the motor ran fine after. But I'll order the Sierra kits from now on.

They don't come with the rubber valves anymore. They shrivel up and leak.

I'm guilty of price shopping for parts. Frustrating when more often than not, too many or too few parts are included in kit.
A lot of people won't mess around with aftermarket parts and I don't blame them.
Kinda hard to justify OEM prices for 30-40 year old junk!
Had good luck with sierra stuff.
Seen some too good to be true prices on unbranded water pump impeller and housing kits from chinese distributors. Won't touch those.

The new sierra is good but the old wasn't they were sold out to teleflex I think, but have had good luck with there parts and they are cheaper. Just my experience. I tried an aftermarket amazon starter it spun once smoked and the gear flew off amazon made good after I send a picture to the vender.

Bizare. I've rebuilt several fuel pumps in the past couple years, and never heard of using just the clear plastic discs. I feel like the kinda warp a bit when you install them, and don't make a good seal.
