No. The closest we get is two pieces of one connecting rod...

I guess you missed my point or didn’t take the time to read the link; I was comparing the advent of the small block coming into the flathead Ford-dominated performance scene. Different technologies, fear of acceptance, etc, etc.

The fact of the matter is the early performance numbers of the new 4.6L are just the tip of the iceberg, as jperog has commented more than once. Wildman is getting his best speed numbers ever from stock, 87-octane drinking power. What engine can you put against it on 87, or even 89? The fact that Mercury Racing’s 340X MTI runs 115 on stock power running 87 I think is phenomenal. Unfortunately new stuff costs money, but sooner or later there will be units to play with. Until then, I’m just going to observe and enjoy the ride.

What do you think the possibilities are with camshafts, compression, and exhaust mods allowing 7500-8000 RPM? I for one am eagerly looking forward to seeing it happen. It’s not a matter of “if” it’s a matter of “when”.

This whole discussion is exactly that, a discussion.

Better question is what can they put against my sub $400 lbs 200+ hp 2.5 fishing motor? Boat for boat. You simple minds bolt whatever 4joke crap you want to an Allison SS and meet me in the bay. Straight line. Then just for fun we'll see how one of those top heavy terds can hold a turn.

The thought of scattering valves and destroying everything is also going to be a consideration as well as complexity of the build , no aftermarket cams , valves etc . Cost will be 3 times a 2 stroke . It may happen though . As soon as parts for 2 strokes are too scarce the sport will either adapt or die .

Allison stopped making the SS2000 - no motors for it. The new motors seem great, but it means bigger boats.

Nothing cheap about a 200XS, so it was possible to spend 4 stroke money on a lighter 2 stroke

What boat were you in that makes you say "top heavy turd"? I haven't yet had that experience and have been in an STV rigged with one but nothing smaller. If I choose to run something smaller, it would have a smaller motor. The second thing is the idea of pleasure performance boating is where these new motors shine. Like being able to go out and run for a 100 mile dinner trip and get fuel at any dockside that is open. Not "meet me in the bay" and then I will go back and put another 3 gallons of race fuel or pre mix in my 2.5-I did that for years and had a blast but with the amount of boat traffic, new regulations on inland lakes, and all of the wake board boats running around, it is now "so 90's".

Don't get frustrated, just be glad that they are available and when you get boat that is suited for one, they will be out there.

    Joe[/QUOTE]

Those monster engines can't be anything but top heavy.
Why exactly should I be happy that there's motors out for boats I don't want? How big is that check you get from the mercury propaganda department for posting here?
