There isn't a pleasure boat that I know of out there with 400ROS at this point other then Jimmy Liautaud's (Jimmy John's) 30 skater-so that discussion or comparison has no merit. Those motors are not production and have billet exhaust housings but are still less then half the money of a Seven Marine. You could go rig a quad with new 300 hp V8 mercurys for less then half the cost of twin Seven motors and be very close in total weight. I wouldn't want to be the guy in competition with these motors unless it was a 50+ footer that you were selling and even then, you will see them with six mercurys hanging 90% of the time.
Again, so far out of my league that its not worth discussing....

I was curious at what Rpm and fuel? The pistons are atleast forged on 400R and you can get up to 5 years warranty on either the 300R or 400R, so these engines are obviously more reliable than past 2-strokes that came out of the Racing department with no warranty and required race fuel. Wonder if heat was the problem on the wicked up supercharged I6?

If we're talking early Verado testing @ the lake. They ran a 4 cyl on 110 , turned the wick up and took it home running just fine.
So when Mr. George (RIP) said I need a 15" Verado for my bass boats , I don't give a **** what it cost. This is what I had to work with ..
Shrimpie's clamp bracket + partial motor mount ...
Yeeeap , here's where I'd put the rest of that deal ...
And man is that ****** ****** heavy ..
Lets see, what blots to that, gotta be some kind of upper adapter plate. Good use of space to put the oil pump in there . But who in their right mind lays a plate + pin chain over on it's side ...
Oil tank, water tube, and exhaust pipe ( with water pop off valve ) all live in a pretty tight space. Short trip between the oil and exhaust / water flange protected by a $ 10.34 dollar gasket. Get it hot, start passin love notes between the two ... saltwater milkshakes in the oil bag .
If your gonna lay one chain over on it's side, might as well do both of em ...
Maybe it's just me, but if you gotta run plastic guides from one end to the other and then back again and a tensioner system that doesn't allow for even a bit of sag or deflection. I'd say you wuz barkin up the wrong tree to begin with .. but since ya went and done it, be lookin fer that baby "real slow" in the oil analysis. Or all at once in the filter ... Just sayin what I see

Well it’s more expensive and heavier, but they did just release a 450R that runs on 89 octane...

AZMIDLYF thinking a used 400R, Chaz 15" mid, flashed is looking pretty good.

I roll and drag plenty of those V-rods out the way to get the cherry picker hooked up the 3.0L I'm gettin that day. I'll be honest ... I've looked .. but the only straight six I ever liked belonged to "Cotton Perry". But I wouldn't want to own it ..
I've got a pair of 3.6L powerheads going together .. they should quite spirited
But ya know .. I've come to my senses ...
I'm gonna cash in my retirement , buy two of them $64,000.00 + tax , a few sets of CNC props + all the factory tools , have the box B+E'd from day one .. he11 with three year wty .. I need 500 HP each ...
In the mean time , a 3.0L core , 3.2 crank , 6 sleeves , 6 piston kits , 6 custom injectors and a set of billet heads will easily go north of 400HP ...

I am thinking no on the north of 400HP. I am thinking several pistons in the scrap barrel trying to tune the from scratch to 370HP. If you can tune to 425HP. That would be great. You will only need 1 on your boat. And i will trade you 2 lil'Jims pork sammiches for the extra motor.

Just so we have our terminology straight . 401 is north of 400 ...
EGT , O2 , old age , and some pretty smart fellas around me have kept the scraps to a minimum. They made 375 with early model stuff .015 over , 20 years ago ...
I should be able to get there with a stroker crank and .220 over ..
Tell ya the truth, the .220 overs with a std crank are more than enough to make you pay attention . But I've had the parts for a while and I'm not getting any younger ...
Throw in some hot boiled peanuts ... and mannn I'll lose sleep thinkin about that deal
