Question , Hard points between Hull & deck are a no no,correct?

Tieing the bottom to the top/deck shouldn’t be done because it needs to be able to
flex somewhat and top and bottom flex in different directions and different degrees of movement independently. That’s what I’ve always believed anyway. My question is do mirage ski racers usually have the bottom and top glassed together? Mine has the hull
Tied in with glass in several areas and appears as though it was done after original construction of the boat. Every where these hard points are I’m seeing little stress cracks in the gel coat, and only where the hard points are. Should I get rid of these? I’ll post pics of what I’m talking about if I can. Thanks in advance!

Not at the rub rail, or perimeter seams. I’m talking about the bulkheads under the dash and behind the rear seats Click image for larger version.

Bulkhead contact areas should be cored if the rest of the deck isn't. If the whole deck is cored and it is still cracking, you have some pressure points that will be hard to remedy easily.

Im retracting my previous stmt. Didn't pay attention to the hot foot sitting there. Thought it was the transom.. Still should be glassed with more than mat.

I can see that whoever did that glassing didn't prep anything before putting the glass down. There is still gel and webbing under the glass.

glassed with 1708. All ground smooth and gelled, it hides the tabs pretty good.

I don't believe any of the upper deck portion is cored besides the dash/ instrument panel has 3/4 in plywood. neither of the two bulkheads contact points are cored. I have plenty of 1708 and 1700 and about 10 yards of 24" 9 oz carbon fiber and a fresh gallon of Vinyl Ester Resin. Just did some Repairs to the bottom. guess I have more work to do. still have to shoot some gel on the bottom. Just got my ES 200 dump gun and a gallon of white gel to shoot the bottom repaired area.

So you think i should cut through the CSM and put in a section of core of some sort or just tab it in better with 1708 after properly sanding and prepping of course?

ID:	441600bulkhead and little spider web at rear bulkhead. at second look there is small thicker cored deck at the rear bulkhead contact points. either that or its to reinforce the little spring loaded pop up cleats that are in the same area or both.

XstreamVking I value your opinion a lot, and I was hoping you’d chime in so thank you! Hopefully you can gather enough from the pictures to point me in right direction. Would you just glass/ tab it in better or cut away some bulkhead in order to make room to slip some laminated core material in first? Or something else?

Looks to me like someone has walked on the cap, it flexed and was stiffer where it was tabbed in and cracked in that area ( prob right outside of the tabbed area ) IM just speculating though. If you recently bought the boat like that, its always possible cracks may have happend and someone tabbed the bulkhead in to prevent further cracking.

It has pressure point cracking from underneath. Don't know if it started recently or has been there for a while. Not an easy fix. Might have to remove cap and/or cut down the bulkheads to allow for some core to be installed to spread the load. Like twisted said, can't walk on a thin un-cored deck under any circumstances.
