    Black max 150 no start

Just bought a project boat with a black max 150 on it. when hooked to a battery I don't get any power. Turn the key and nothing. Starter doesn't click, trim doesn't work. no sparks or anything. I'm lost as to what it could be. I replaced the solenoid and used a new control box and still nothing. It has a fuse that comes out of the harness, hooks to the positive of the solenoid and then goes back into the harness. It blows the fuse every time I put a new fuse in. I feel like something is cross wired but from all the pictures I've seen everything looks correct.

Mercury insulation is iffy sometimes. I would look at stator, trigger, and coil wires. Make sure outer switch box is not grounding wire on inner box. Gotta be going to ground somewhere. Good luck.

if trim doesn't work ya gotta problem between boat battery and trim feed or trim control fuse (if present, small red coming from same post on start sol. battery connects to) at tha trim solenoid feed... trim should work 24/7 with good battery, ign on or off, blown fuse or not... tha blowin' fuse is ign. circuit problem your seenin' doesn't effect trim..

remove tha small red at sol. that comes from harness.. jump tha starter sol. ta see if it will turn over, might even start.. if it does ya will need ta ground ANY black/yellow or pull kill switch at controls ta kill it.. be ready for that.

does your push ta choke make tha enrichner click?

have you got a wiring dia?

I jumped the starter and it turns over. There are no clicks from the enricher. The fuse for the trim solenoid is good and still in tact, is it possible that the harness from the 8 pin to solenoid is bad? I’ve looked at wiring diagrams but none had that fuse.

if trim control fuse (not shown on dia. is normal) is good and trim buttons work trim should work 24/7 if it has tha trim control wire feed coming from same battery + on big sol post... can you jump trim up or down at their sol. and trim work?...

1984 Black max 150. fuse blows when positive is touched to the battery. 40 amp, doesn't matter if I have someone turning the key when I put power to it the fuse blows.

bad boat harness, bad motor harness, bad key switch, wires wrong?.. you should have two (maybe more) small reds made on large positive with batt cable on start sol.?

40 amp?.. should be a 16 amp chargin' system..

one of small reds goes into tha motor side harness with female plug.. disconnect it at sol... try a new fuse... or just unplug tha harness and try new fuse... or do both...

Boat harness should be good, I ordered a brand new one. I'm thinking the motor harness is bad. Key switch should be good I.E. brand new. I'll double check the wiring but from pictures I've seen and my boat that has a similar motor it all looks good. Yes I have two small reds and then the positive battery cable.

Oops my bad, I thought it was 40 but you are correct it is 16.

Tried both still nothing. Sounding like the motor harness is bad.
