Oh ya he also Iron Manned the entire race.

Here are the 2019 rules and unless you bring rule unlimited gas hog V8 GN boat... you have to jump through hoops in the rules to slow the Outboards as much as possible.

A. SINGLE ENGINE OUTBOARDS1. ENGINES2 Strokes:a. Naturally aspirated only. No nitrous oxide & must use gas with oil mix only. Nofuel additives allowed. All fuel oil mix is subject to a digitron reading of 0 orbelow. A reading of +1 or above is deemed illegal and is subject todisqualification. Tech Inspector will be available on Friday from 1:00 pm untildriver’s meeting to check fuel and again from 7:30 am to start of the Enduro onSaturday morning. The inspector reserves the right to randomly check fuel duringpits stops during the race. 4 Strokes & Green Engines:b. allowed but must remain as delivered from the engine manufacturer. The onlyengine modifications allowed are as follows: ECU reflash & air horn mod, no portor head work allowed. Must run the Stock tuner with 20 inch factory mid section.Aftermarket steering attachments are permitted. Green engines & Mercury 300REngine dry weight will be 1500 lbs. A pump gas reading from Running Man gasStation, 1115 Mohave Rd, Parker (adjacent to the Casino) will be taken for all threelevels of fuel (86/89/91). Friday, prior to inspection. This shall serve as a base linereading for fuel check. Should Running Man gas station be closed or out of fuel,Woody’s on AZ 95 will be used for baseline fuel reading. A + 5 will be allowed.Any fuel testing higher than the baseline reading + 5 will be subject todisqualification, fine or both. The Tech Inspector will be available on Friday from1:00 pm until driver’s meeting to check fuel and again from 7:30 am to start of theEnduro on Saturday morning. The inspector reserves the right to randomly checkfuel during pits stops during the race. E85 is deemed illegal for all Division VIclasses.c. 2.5 Liter motors maybe modified however, are limited to 32cc w/gaskets and 37cc for“O” ring type heads. d. 2.4 Liter motors maybe modified however to include “behind the liner” porting,are: 1.) will be limited to 32CC heads and must run gaskets, Dry weight will be1400 pounds, 30CC heads dry weight will be 1450 pounds or 2.) 2.4L engine mustmeasure 3-3/8 bore and retain stock stroke and bore but may be bored to .030 torepair cylinder(s). Pistons may not protrude more than .010 above the deck. Mercfactory EFI or Carbs, mid and lower rules per 2.5. 2.

LOWER UNITS: a. Green & 300R lower units must remain as delivered from the manufacturer & shall runthe propeller shaft no higher than ½” below the last 3’ of the running surface. 300R mustrun the propeller shaft no higher than 1” below the 3’ of running surface. The prop shaftmust be parallel to the running surface at the time of measurement. b. Non green lower units may be modified but must be a V6/8 style. XR6 style units allowed. Shaft height limited to 1” below the last 3’ of the running surface. c. All lower units must have a working forward, neutral, & reverse from the driver’s seat. 3. HULL: a. Minimum length 17’ 9” Mod VP, or V bottom style hull with an open cockpit. No true tunnels or capsules allowed. b. Dry Weight: 2.5 Liter minimum dry weight 1500 lbs., 3.0 Liter minimum dry weight1875 lbs, 3.2 Liter minimum dry weight 1980 lbs.


I'm sorry... I cannot get my boat to weigh 1875# unless I am IN THE BOAT. It already weighs 1450-ish with most everything in it, rigged with a 3.0L 250XS.

Since the addition of GPS limited speeds with penalties, the rules for the engine height should be free so we can work on efficiencies, pit strategy and keeping it alive.

Note the new 300R is allowed to weigh the same as a 2.5L!! Go figure that one out. Might as well just give that guy the trophy.

So once again... my Bucket list of joining the Parker will pass again in 2019 until someone writing the rules has a clue. These rules would not last a day in DSRA, ODBA or any other events where outboards run, so I won't join the fray until they are updated to this decade's common sense.

Who wants to build an enduro on the East Coast? Now that the Ski park is open in Florida... I am sure we could find some space in Florida to run an East coast event that does not conflict with the Offshore races.

The funny thing is that when you ask for a clarification, all you get is... "That's the way it has always been" and "its the insurance companies..."

Total BS if you ask me. You have the Grand National guys crying about the outboards running circles around them and most of those boat broke by the 15th lap. By the halfway point in 2018, more than 2/3s the field was gone from attrition. I didn't run last year as I found some structural stuff that made me split the hull and redo the entire boat. I'll just say that if the rules about no 15" mids and propshaft height being because the insurance, then explain why the entire field is held to 110 mph. You already have a lap penalty which would cost you over 6 minutes and two mandatory 11 minute pit stops. So in a 4 hour time limited "race", you have roughly 80 minutes per stint to run the clock out. This calculated in my boat with the 250XS is roughly 27.8 GPH if I can maintain 102mph average. So I have built a 38 gallon main tank with a 12-gallon aux/ballast tank to run the distance on only the required stops. If no other issues arise, its just a run for attrition, nothing more. Throw in a 300R which has a nearly 22% lower GPH consumption compared to the Opti... it really gets to nothing more than showing up. Heck, you could run the entire race on one tank with the 300R and just use the pit stops to get a burger or hotdog off the grill.

Like having a higher center of gravity is SAFER around corners, just the opposite, rigged.

It's sad that outboard drag racing is the only thing available, growing up on the Niagara river we had a race around Grand Island 30 miles, long gone like many other endurance type races.

All good things must come to an end. I saw the race began to die (for outboards) when the powers that be wouldn`t allow the War Canoe to enter their heavy 21ft Cougar w/modified 3.0L claiming it was to fast even tho they had a 110mph speed limit. It also had a 15inch mid.

Have they adjusted the rules for the new 450R? Seems that would be the way to go no matter how much weight they put on it. I can envision the race turning into large Mod-VP type boats like 23ft Daytonas/450R`s and such. That should be as safe as it gets if in fact safety is what they are after. One things for sure tho, A boat like that would never come close to the 110mph limit.

I think that the St. Johns river would be a great place for this. It was done in the old days "Jacksonville to Lake Monroe" which would be a massive stretch to close down and or patrol-Olegator here on the board has stories of those races. Palatka to Deland (S.R. 44 ramp) would be a nice course and a good length to "run South and back" but still involves a lot of municipalities that would all have to give the green light. Corky Bells to Renegades would be a more realistic course "there are no speed limits within that stretch", you could go after the support of both businesses to promote the event and use their facilities as start/finish/turn points etc. The two locations are roughly 20 miles apart.

The people that organize the Top O' Michigan race need to be consulted and find out how they get it approved and insured. The boats are not as fast but they are within feet of each other in opposing direction, within feet of occupied shoreline, and cover a major amount of waterway (their course covers 87 miles and is a two day event every year). I would be willing to get involved but not to the level of it consuming my life to promote it or to convince government opposition without having a large group of supporters. These city officials have to be convinced that there will be a positive financial impact in order for them to give it any consideration. Let me know when it gets spearheaded "it will not be an easy or fast process" and will need to take place where spectators can gather and spend money.

I would definitely take the reins on this and see what we could do with it. The best dates would be Late March or early April. If there is one thing I have learned from watching the OPA vs RWO debacle is to not split the racers on events the same week or within weeks of a competition.

I also believe that Florida would be the spectacular place to host the event. Each year the Suwannee Run gets bigger with more boats coming out... there is no better model of selling out hotels and campsites in the area than that to show local officials. Bringing the money to the region is key as well as growing a spectator event venue. Where could we host such?

I have thought about the Lake here in SC, Lake Wateree. It is a clean water lake owned by Duke Energy and has a Government owned huge boat ramp that accommodates both FLW and BASS events several times a year with over 250 boaters each time. There is a huge Shaw AF Base Rec Center for camping out and it would be a large open lake to keep head on traffic reduced to nearly an 1/8th mile distance. After Labor Day, most of the use is down to an occasional boater. Since SC would be central to those in Florida, Georgia and anyone coming from the NE, it could have quite a following should we come up with a viable rules package. This site is a 40 minute drive from I-95 & I-20 interstates, making it easy to reach from all areas.

Would anyone else be willing to offer their time to helping me make this happen..?

Here is my proposed site in SC. The course is six miles total, with a 1/4 mile separation between returning boats in the opposite direction. With all landscaped barriers along the lake banks... wave reflection is a minimum.




As you can see here, there is plenty of ramp space with two separate ramps, slips and beaching area. There is also a store with Premium non-ethanol 92 fuel at the pump and 87 octane. The Shaw ramp has four lanes and the Campground has two. These ramps are long enough for a 42' trailer, so our little boats will be fine.

Palatka has the hotels and a large city ramp that is approx. 1 mile North of Corkey Bells. There is a brand new Hampton Inn (I think its 4 stories) that is waterfront and is directly adjacent to the launch parking lot. I will be at Corkey Bells and Renegades both this next weekend and will run it by the owners of each. I want to see if in fact they are willing to commit to facing the local decision makers with us a group. I will also make some inquiries as to who and what the cost are to insure an event like this-I will contact the organizers of the Top O' Michigan event for advise. The host hotel and two restaurants "one at each end of the course" stand to gain the most revenue and are also the ones that could raise sponsor money from their vendors for support. Our last boat gathering in Palatka sold out two hotels in less then a week of its announcement.

We could also talk to Smitty (OPA) who already has everything in place and just offer assistance to him-or Ron Duggan that heads up the LOTO shootout and charity fundraiser. It would be really cool to have a two day event that involved everything from jet skis to offshore boats. I know that in his current "non canopied" classes, there are speed break-outs.

It could get really big as there are two sandbars along the course and 3 restaurant/bars along with a nice city dock in Welaka. You can google earth the above locations to see the basic layout and waterway that they all share. It is plenty wide to run multiple boats abreast other then the train trestle bridge which would require that participants came off plane and idled until they were past marked patrol boats.
