    Mercury 200 Help Needed

Hey this is Jason from Canyon Lake CA and this is my first post. I just bought an 1986 21 Daytona with a broken Mercury 200. It needs a new power head but I don’t know what to get. Can somebody point me in the right direction. I want to get this thing going ASAP.

Source up a complete drop on 225 ProMax powerhead with exhaust plates and tuner.
They show up often enough on this site for sale.

Couple things you can look for to help you/us determine if it’s a 2.0, 2.4, or 2.5, then post your findings:

Look for numbers on the port side of the powerhead on the flange where the front and back half mate together (up top near trigger arm). Another thing to check for: there should be a serial number on the clamp (on midsection). However, the serial number COULD BE deceiving, if someone swapped powerheads in the past. Lastly, post some pictures of the powerhead from all 4 sides (with cowl removed) and the guys on this site can likely tell you what you’ve got.

    Good luck

ALMOST any 2.4 powerhead will fit. around 90-91 there were some "fat block" 2.4's and they won't have the mounts on the exhaust cover for your cowl bracket.

A 2.4 175 or XR4 150 can be made into a 200 by switching parts from your existing motor (everything from and including the front block half forward).

look at the rebuilt price compared to a 2.5 200xs or 2.5xs . both are about 6-7000 for a total motor and really be a good match for the boat.

I've got an early 2.4L 200hp (non finger ported) in Long Beach if you're interested. It'll need all your electrics transferred over and I don't have the carbs for it, but it runs (ran) good and makes good compression. Had some ignition issues with it that I got tired of chasing so I just swapped a different powerhead on.

Not properly, unless you switch to a 2.5 2pc adapter plate. Preferably a PM one.
