perfect WOT rpm '05 etec 225 HO
whats the consensus for these engines? Book says anywhere from 4800-6000, but what is the peak hp goal? 5500? 5200? for every other engine in the evinrude specs (non HO) they specify a 200 rpm window to shoot for but not the HO because its "factory tuned for high performance" so god forbid they publish the peak hp rpm. I was once told 5150 should be my goal but id like a grander input on my target range.

5150 seems low to me ..we propped them to turn around 5800 with a light load..don't know any actual factory spec, but thats where they seem happiest ...if you crowd the limiter they use more oil...

I thought so too, right now im 62mph @ 5800 which gives me a 13% slip which isn't bad but I could do better. I know before when I had the 25" mid on and jacked up all the way (ive since swapped to a 20" mid) I was 68mph and I want to say 5600rpm but that calculated to a 1% slip so im not remembering something correctly lol. its just come out of break in mode so I haven't been putting much time in at WOT to play around with engine height a lot yet. but that's just side info, the other models in the book like the non HO's in the same hp range seem to recommend that 5500 mark so its got me wondering where my goal should be.

We try for 5500+ good holeshot and top end, if the owner doesn’t care about holeshot just top end we pitch fastest.

So i was just reading up on the thread for the new 3 clinder 115-150 that evinrude launched and in said thread is an article from popular mechanics. Now obviously it focuses on the new 3 cyl outboard but, it does make an interesting mention in regards to the 225HO and that is that it makes 265hp @ 4500rpm. this would make sense as to why they say to prop starting at 4500 and up.....

yes that's true..but it seems like when you prop them to top out that low of rpm, then load the kiddies in ,the boats usually get sluggish out of the hole...

oh im not too worried about that, ive aquired several props over the years. just going to be shooting for my fastest this summer. but knowing i can pull this engine down to 4500 while still achieving peak numbers is a useful bit of info.
