I can't believe everyone is complaining so much. If you don't like the wait time, then go and buy something else. If you want the ultimate outboard performance, then wait patiently and be happy that you have motors coming. There were several internal issues that took place delaying the production but first and foremost we should be thankful for this new product coming out and the fact that that Mercury is building additional facilities for production to meet market demand.

I agree Joe. I dont think mercury expected the demand they recieved for these new engines and they are doing everything they can to build them.

Mercury is having a hard time keeping up because look at all the boat manufactures that are using these motors thats where there priority is, the big performance boats, and performance center consoles manufactures now switching from stern drives to outboards, running anywhere from 2-6 motors,, and these dealers are buying large supplies of them that to me is why the cant keep up, as well as bass boat manufactures,,, for sure it sucks to have to wait

No, that's not the cause, that's the effect. The cause is Mercury Marine miscalculated the demand. It's always the biggest gamble a manufacturer makes when introducing a new product. Over commit and you are stuck with unsold inventory, under commit and you have the current situation. The other side of the coin is, if you ramp up production to meet the immediate demand what do you do with that manufacturing capacity once that demand normalizes (and it always does)?
Don't get me wrong, it's not easy to make these decisions and honestly, companies rarely get it right, some just come closer than others. Mercury missed this time.Mark

I disagree, there are merc guys, and yammi guys. Most are brand loyal. I would wait for an engine. Heck, I order all of my new vehicles and wait for them to be made. I waited over 6 mos for a mustang to come in.

As with most on this site you (we) are the exception. 80% - 90% of new boats (and cars) get sold off the lot. Around here I can count on 1 finger a dealership that orders primarily Mercury for stock. The 4 others order Yamaha and there's one oddball Suzuki shop.
I like the generic little 150 yamaha I have on the used Key West I bought but if I go for something new it will have the new generation Mercury motors and if I have to wait so be it.Mark

Yeah, lots of boats come pre rigged too. So no real choice sometimes and newbies don't care what brand their motor is.They just want that boat by the wknd....

A buddy moved back up here with a 31 fountain cc to take care of his parents. He scored a deal on the new zooks and couldn't be a happier man.

There used to be a wait time of a year or more for Harleys not that long ago. When the demand is high enough people will wait.
