    Texas hog epidemic

The southern US is being over run with a feral hog influx , they are destroying farm, pasture lands. They are also dwendling the native animal habitat. I hunt and live in what people refer to as Deep East Texas on the Louisiana Texas boarder this is prime Deer , turkey and fishing country . The prime industry is timber and tourism, these hogs have pushed the deer and turkey populations almost out of existence. I hunt everyday and just killed a big loan boar before typing this , I check game cameras at feeders to feed deer and find 20-30 in a sounder ( what a hog group is called ) for the lucky ones that live up north don’t celebrate they are heading your way , wildlife biologist tell me we have to kill 80% of the feral hogs to break even with their birth patterns . Don’t get me wrong me and my son in law and grand son love shooting them but the numbers of them are scary...
Well gotta go don’t and drag this stinking SOB off and maybe my deer can get some breakfast !!!

Crazy, with the way they multiply it's hard to keep them under control. Are they any good to eat?

I was told, "There are places that have hogs, and there are places that will have hogs."

Not only do they compete with deer for food, but they will also eat fawns. I have seen many game camera pics with a bloody fawn in a hog's mouth. No doubt what they do when they find a turkey nest or poults if they can catch them.

When it’s cooler weather hogs can be very good to eat and not such a time frame to deal with them before they spoil , the female or a bar hog ( male that’s been early in life de nutted) are especially tasty , although the older boars are a bit “gamey” tasting for my liking. I have friends that will take the sows and bars I shoot and I sometimes donate meat to the poor .

I kill SOOO many pigs everyone I know are loaded with meat , some of my friends that hunt deer and not hogs use the hog meat to mix with deer to make sausages to keep from having to buy the pork at the market blending the 60/40 blend during deer hunting season .

The smaller 20/30 lb ones either sex are especially good to split and bar b que , the larger ones I soak in a ice - brine mix for a couple of days makes for a tender non gamey pork as good as any you can buy ...

I have a picture of a hog I shot Sunday AM , it was the small one with the big sow that Bud was kind enough to post that had a weird skin disease that I sent pictures to my game warden that stumped him , I’d love to post the picture but am not a forum person , I can text the picture to someone if they can post it on here and give me a clue....

My buddy is taking the picture to a feral hog meeting to talk to a wildlife guru to control these hogs !!

Thanks for the post Joe ,
I thought this was caked on mud as most hogs have glued to them but I tossed it in the truck and with gloves on tried to scrape the mud off , the top of this came off revealing a yellow fleshey inner that was also bloody around the edges ??? If anyone has a serious answer to what this is please post ...

Hope it’s as simple as that ( Mange ) I was hoping it wasn’t something weird and exotic ,I always use nytril gloves anytime I touch a hog as feral hogs do carry some pretty scary contagious to human stuff !!
