Is this flywheel bad?
My gut tells me it is but I wanted to ask the pros. Not sure if you can tell by the pics but the splines on the inside of the flywheel are pretty much gone. They only come up about 1/32 of an inch before it turns smooth.
I couldn't find a key way other than the splines in the flywheel. Should there have been a separate key way?
Could this be causing my missfire issue?

Surprised it runs at all. Fly whl is toast. Crank may be comped too. Splines look twisted.

Check crank end closely. No point in ruining another flywheel.

Thanks for the responses. I will check crank splines real good. Maybe it's time to upgrade to an EFI motor. This has been a good engine but it's getting tired.

Crank spline looks like it may be OK.

Like mentioned above, flywheel is done.
Thats a 40amp cast iron flywheel.
The key is not a separate piece. Key way is 2 splines together on the flywheel.
Make sure your tighten the flywheel properly when installing new one.
Have seen that happen when flywheel was run loose.

Thanks for all the help. I changed the flywheel out with a used one from a salvage yard. Runs like a sewing machine now. Just in time for summer!
