1990 Johnson gt-200 issues please help

Alright I'm at my wit's end with this thing 1990 Johnson gt-200 running an outboard jet pump 7 3/8v6 impeller motor has 110lb comp on all cylinders idles decent revs alittle rough from 3000-4500rpm once over 4500 it's smooth as can be until it gets to 5400rpm some times it's perfectly fine other times it will surge between 5200-5400rpm and feels like possible misfire then shuts down to slow mode and drops to 1500rpm won't rev unless I bring it back to idle then throttle back up only takes a second to get it to rev back up which is odd because my understanding is that for slow mode to be turnt off it has to be shut off and restarted spark plugs look good after wide open shutdown now what I have done already motor was surging 5000-5500rpm replaced the vro pump which had been setup for premix with a Holley red pump the constant surging is gone after installing the Holley pump all carbs have been cleaned replaced fuel lines timing was set to 18deg btdc at 5000rpm found #4 cylinder was double firing timing light was reading 5500rpm at 2500rpm or so triple checked it because I've never seen that before so swapped power packs double fire gone still runs exactly the same the shift interrupt switch has been eliminated since it had a broken wire it's showing good strong spark on all cylinders at idle on the hose don't really have a way to check that over 5000 rpm but I would imagine it would only be stronger at higher rpm considering possible trigger issue or mabey flywheel magnets but they all look good looking under the flywheel I have not removed the flywheel to check them out completely but that's basically my next step I would consider a fuel or vacuum leaks issue but I can't see how that would make it go into slow mode like it is doing and be as erratic as it is also I'm not getting any alarms when it goes to slow mode sure hope someone can help because if the flywheel magnets check out I'm going to be completely lost

I mean no offense in this.............but please use punctuation........I can t follow you............even if you break things up like this............we can know your sentences!!!! So please take the time to use periods or something more than just one huge run-on sentence. It is very rude to the people who will help you out on this site.

I would disconnect the tan bullet connector under the power pack and the connectors with the black wires with yellow tracers and try it again. Remember you won't be able to shut it off with the key switch you'll have to kill it by activating the primer solenoid at an idle. Good luck.

what do they do with the shift loom on a jet?
Was there a new OEM loom without the switch?

Hit the choke between 3000-4000 when it’s acting funny. Might have a eroded jet peeing instead of spraying.

I will give that a try. Is the tan wire for the alarms?

Motv18 I tried that makes little to no difference but I do believe I may need to add fender washers to the screws for the plate covering the idle and intermediate circuits so Im going to do that before my next test run

No normally it would just be left alone but I removed it completely because it was damaged and didn't want it to cause any issues. It isn't necessary for a jet because your not shifting gears

Cool, one of the problem us helpers have is not having our hands on it or ears,

interesting choking didnt try try to kill it or line it out, does it have a disable function on the choke?

or does that send it back to ignition?

Theirs a test from cdi for miss in that rpm range. Books not close
