2.5 200
simply less nla stuff. And common parts are in stock. To far back are great motors just harder to find parts sometimes.
An 80’s merc block force or sears 2.4 are real sleepers often cheep.
A hp goal would help some and max rpm.

All of the answers r good , I'll add this , cause my pockets wasnt deep enuff to grab up a promax or a 260 , just get u a ff block have it ported 260 specs and choose what kinda front u wanna run , efi, horn, carbs, and u will b pleasantly surprised ,
My ff block is a little bit stronger than a promax for half the cost

150 wont b worth putting a horn on imo , lots lots work needs b done and a very light boat, stick with 2.5. at least a 2.4 but again if 2.4 is chrome it limits u unless u got really deep pockets

For a running 2.5 200 not bad, if not running I.e needs stator switch box or injection stuff nah.
It it could be great but I always wonder why when I see rebuild and no time or only x miles on cars.
The 150 mariner is probably 2.0 that would take a lot to get there could build a decent 175-180. if it’s still the 2.4 I forget the flip over year might look into it, but a lot of block work often more then a budget or beginner can tackle.

I had a ski Eagle once and it was no lightweight. Had a 260 with tight heads but I really think you would have better luck with a 3.0. Probably even an Optimax. Torque is king on anything with a little weight to it and a 3.0 Opti will give you both torque and ridiculous economy. Just another opinion.

Rock I thought about that too but you think of hot rod or go fast boat optimax don't really come to mind for me and maybe Im missing out I have never had one but they just don't seem to have the performance following like the other v6 merc but that's just my thoughts I may be wrong but thanks for the input

Looks like they are going good in that pic and I'm sure I'd love the money I'd save ,boat dock gas prices are crazy

tha answer you seek for a "slightly heavy" ride can be found ona "bullet forum".. most on there were die hard "hot rod motor" guys.. "WERE" but now tha thing is tha 3 liter mercs except for a few with deep pockets that are able ta build real stem winder 2.5's and such.... jmo.
and a bullet ain't that heavy!Last edited by tlwjkw; 05-23-2019 at 08:34 AM.

Rock is right. I’d be looking for a 250 or 300 XS. They don’t turn as many rpm but they do turn big props. The Seebold Eagle is a relatively heavy hull and will benefit from the added torque. Bonus points for not having to worry about nicasil or expensive rings and pistons
