    No spark on Johnson 300

Hey all...hope someone can help or point me in a different direction.
This boat sat for almost 2yrs after it died mid ride. Was cruising great, but died coming to a stop. Hasn't run since because I had a kid, so haven't had the time to mess with it till the last few weeks.
I've been to various marine repair places and all have wasted my money. The motor has new everything, CDI controller, stator, timer base, and coils. New wires, plugs, 2 1000 cranking batteries on new 2/0 wire, new hardware and battery switch. I've checked the black with yellow wires, disconnected the yellows from the rectifier, still no spark. Did the ohm value test across the timer wiring and one was 165 ohm vs the 800k ohm the rest had...but didn't think it would keep it from making spark.
Personal observation makes me think the motor isn't turning fast enough to make spark. I've checked voltage drop while cranking and doesn't get below 12.1v unless I continue to crank it for 20 seconds or so, and even then it doesn't get below 11.8v. Is there a way to test the starter speed? Anyone know of any badass starters to spin this thing good?

    Says all new CDI..
Did you get the digital timing base and power pack or no?
With those even if not spinning at starting rpm will still spark and start..

If you've replaced all that did anyone look at the magnets on the flywheel?
And did they try a remote starting harness to make sure it's not in wiring in the boat grounding out?

The harness was disconnected from the boat during testing. Checked magnets as well...first flywheel had a few with small chips out of it and thought that was it, so replaced it. No-go
I meant all of the electronics are from CDI Electronics and all are new.

    What year is motor?
How fast is it spinning when you turn it over what does your tach show?
Digital Timing gun with tach will show cranking rpms
Cdi figured you meant all new cdi ..
Was wondering if it was the digital or no...so no correct?

You don't have any spark right?

Correct, standard OEM replacement. From what the tach shows, it bounces between 150-200. I dont have a digital timing gun w/ tach...just a standard one.
    Motor is a 91

You have no spark at all? Not even weak erratic..
    Sure you figured this but..
If it died while running its not just the starter..but could have fixed the other problem replacing all the other ignition stuff..
    Starter new or rebuilt?
    What year is the motor?
And you checked all the wiring yourself right? not going by what they(shops) said?

No spark on any cylinder. I have gone through the wiring myself after the fortune I've spent. I'm a master automotive tech, so I know how to run through the tests. Only thing I've found is the one bad ohm value from the timer...white to green gets about 165 ohms. The wiring is older, but in good condition. The starter is the original as far as I know.

How's the starter sound? Master mech I'm sure you did this already but asking anyway.
You try taking starter of the motor and hooking up to battery and see how it sounds/turns over..
Good starter with 1000 cranking amp battery should have no problem turning it over..

Could be a bad timing base even new...
Wouldn't be the first new defective part.

Harness wires are in good shape? Did you open it and check the wires? Or test them

Had someone have kind of the same problem spent a bunch of money at a certified mech was told he was local expert and guy wired it wrong and part was bad..
Told him the wiring in the boat was bad and would cost $$$ he said forget it..why I asked if you checked it

Starter sounds like its struggling, but isn't dragging. Correct, with that much current, it should spin fast enough to fly.
Would the single leg if the timer base that's bad keep it from getting spark? I assumed only 1 of the 8 would just make it run like a miss.
    I've had everything open. It's in a 22' Proline that I rebuilt.

I assume compression was done by the shops for the original issue.

It should spark some even hand rope pulled.

    amp draw the starter

without spark the induction timer won’t work. No current for the clip to detect.

Work voltage back like like a car, no spark, then voltage at coil and triggers, then pack, timer, stator, alt if it has it regulator.

The cdi book will give stats on voltages produced from stator and such.

The parts are odd but functions like a car.

So far all tests as far as continuity go are good, with the exception of that one leg from the timer base. For tests when I crank it, it doesn't spin fast enough it seems, so all results are low. I have all the CDI troubleshooting guides as well.
Only time it was close to fast enough, is when I used my big Snap-on battery charger/tester/jumper.

Try disconnecting the shift interrupter. When they go bad you wont have a good spark anywhere.
