1992 150 XRI voltage regulator questions
OK so I need one regulator. First question, any of the cheap regulators seem to work fine? Mercury/Quicksilver IMO is outrageous for pricing. Anyone have any good luck with the cheap 20-40 dollar ones? IMO, the biggest reason any of them go bad is because of weak batteries or trying to charge a deep cycle. Provided I use a good known starting battery and stator is working properly and cables/connections good as simple as these rectifiers/regulators are wouldn't a cheaper one work as good as Mercury/Quicksilver? Looking at something like this >>> https://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Wires-Vol...YAAOSwPrlbf2OA
Second question, I see the newer style regulators have a 30 amp fuse on one red wire. IS it possible to put an inline fuse on a older style regulator thus preventing a fire/melting of a regulator and wiring if one or both go bad? Seems like cheap insurance to keep damage to a minimum. Figured someone on here must have seen this as well and maybe tried doing this?

poor connections is what destroys regulators.
don't use the push in bullet connectors.
use a molex crimp connector or solder.
be sure battery cables are clean and tight on both ends.
i haven't tried the cheap regulators but i would if i needed one.
