2000 Mercury 200 efi
Today's Tech question--Can you swap out 1997 200 efi gasket heads to a 2000 200 efi O-ring motor. If so what CC should you stay at. Thank you

O-ring blocks have taller decks to achieve correct squish clearance being the head is sitting directly on block (piston not coming all the flush to top). The use of a gasket will give you excessive squish clearance. Some machining can be done to make it possible, but not a direct bolt on.

Havnt personally tested them side by side in real world conditions apples to apples, but the O-ring 200 is a strong runner, The cdm ignition softens it up some down low compared to the switchbox set up, by delaying timing advance, that makes it feel like it’s weaker but it’ll run with best of them once you going. Put switchboxes on it and you’ll be surprised at the improvement in holeshot
