Merc 2.5 Conn rod play
Putting my 92 XRI back together - got the crank and pistons in last night and noticed a fair bit of side to side play on the bottom end of the conn rods. I didn't torque the rod bolts, just lined everything up and hand tightened them for now. Haven't put one of these together before so I'm not sure what's acceptable in terms of play. They're top guided rods, so I assume some play is to be expected, just don't want to close it all up and have to backtrack if it's an issue.

You answered your own question. Top guide. They will move about a half mile side to side.
