SeaStar Hydraulic Steering - power assist and angled helm?
Working with a 17.5' Norris Craft with a '89 200hp Mariner motor, I am wanting to ditch the ride guide cable steering and switch to a hydraulic setup. I have been looking at the SeaStar kit (https://www.seatechmarineproducts.co...6ft-hoses.html), but have some concerns and may need to piece this together myself.
The helm it comes with doesn't appear to be angled. Unless I went with a tilt helm (more costly), I would like some kind of fixed angle plate like on my current setup.
Is power assist worth it? It sounds like anything above 60mph it is highly recommended. I am leaning toward wanting the power assist, but this is where I would ditch this kit and piece it together myself with shorter hoses, etc.
Just trying to get some feedback on what others have.

Once you have power assist, you will never go without it again.

Do you have the tools or access to someone who could mill you a spacer for the sea star system? Hydraulics are particular, hoses etc. Might would not be as costly as u think.

I don't, at least not for the price of getting something together for my machine shop to cut for me.

I found this adapter that fits a 3/4" key shaft, which I believe is what the SeaStar helm is. And my Momo wheel has a 6 hole hub. With this plus an angled adapter, I should be set. It might be cheaper to get the hydraulic lines built locally, though if I can just buy them already at 6' to the power assist and 6' to the cylinder, it will take the extra work out, assuming the price is relatively similar.

There are a ton of articles about types of steering, might find what you're looking for in the archives,
