    1988 mercury blackmax 200 issue

So I'm just getting started again for the season and trying to remedy last years final run problem. Under load the boat really struggles to go (won't get on plane and wont rev to normal rpms). It sounds to me like its hitting a rev limiter or something. It only happens under load. I've attached a video so you can hear it. I had it at full throttle the entire video.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Switch box,

but one sound has had me guessing shift switch, the rod riding on it or bad. (More common with rudes the rod ridding the switch)

that said the way it catches going back to 6 says more switch box ignition stuff.

To me it also drops to many cylinders for carb, but fuel starved maybe. Never hurts to clean.

It sounding like my 3cyl sometimes pointed me to this

PROBLEM SOLVED: got it checked out by a mechanic in naples maine (RPM service) found to be missing a screw on the carb linkage that was making it run on 4 cylinders instead of 6

Start out with the easy stuff like pull the plugs and see if you have fire on each cylinder, and check the compression. Make sure your compression is within 10 % of each hole. If you have a bank out its probably going to be a switchbox but verify with a DVA meter the stator is sending the correct voltage.
