You might be better off using the term air box....Were easily confused here...I don't know the EXACT size, but I have made one 2.5'' on a 225 opti to get more air.

I plan on putting together a 300XS long block, or dressed. I have an air box from a 250, that I have to cut a hole in.

attenuator
noun
at· ten· u· a· tor | \ -yə-ˌwā-tər
, -yü-ˌā-\
Definition of attenuator
: a device for attenuating especially : one for reducing the amplitude of an electrical signal without appreciable distortion
I drilled mine so my matching Les Paul will plug right in and play distortion free @ 100 mph ...

Appreciate that...….
I'm just using the same word that Mercury uses.

I kinda do insist on being technical, that's why I asked the hole size question. My question wasn't what is the part number, but I appreciate you providing that, maybe it will help someone in the future.
I was just hoping that a 300XS owner would be kind enough to MEASURE the big hole diameter in the top of a 300XS air box attenuator, and post the results of the measurement.
This is fun though....167 views, guitars, motor picture...….good times!Last edited by savage; 05-03-2019 at 04:28 PM.

I believe the hole size has changed over the model years. The plug in hole for the guitar, however remains the same spec. I measured one to cut my 225's attenuator and it was 2.5''. They say that making a hole in the air box on an engine NOT a 300xs will lean it out some and not to do it.

Diff style cover from the one I copied.....That is a big hole, I would bet the same dia as the intake opening.

and.....the fun times continue, may I point out that my question was not about modifying throttle bodies and making stacks, though again maybe this could help someone else someday, but it is unfortunately useless to me.
The part number for a 300XS attenuator IS >>> 854343T12
The part number for my 250 ProXS attenuator IS >>>854343T11
The 250 ProXS part number ending in "T11" doesn't have a big hole in the top.
The 300XS part number ending in "T12" DOES have a big hole in the top.
I simply want to know the hole size in the top of the STOCK attenuator. I never envisioned in a million years that this was a difficult question to understand and answer ! This has been really fun but we are 14 posts in with lots off attachments and all I want is a simple EXACT measurement of the STOCK hole size.
Respectfully If you can't give me the specific EXACT hole size of a STOCK Mercury attenuator, then there is really no need to waste your time in replying to my simple question.
Thanks in advance.Last edited by savage; 05-04-2019 at 10:39 AM.

Don’t know it but just had to poke fire.
Attunator signals are just as important as carb signals they play with the map sensor.
Its mor more of a heat shield though.
Around 100mm
