Polishing a Bass Boat
I have a friend that polishes cars at a body shop. I am looking to have him do my boat but he or i are not sure of the best products to use. I am hoping to get some good advice from S&F members. Thank you

I like Wizzards products for the actual polish/sealant, but use Boat Bling products to keep em clean

MUST use a Boat specific cleaner/wax, gel-coat isn't like automotive paint, its not SEALED like paint on a car, must be cleaned and sealed with the correct product.

Pretty basic . As far as difficult it is not . Your detailer at the body hop should be able to improve the finish . Your detail on the finish of the boat - is rather vague . Is it a painted or gelled boat . Condition - faded - will all help with advice to proceed . Generally buffing with a compound - fine or course - depending on cut that you need dependant on condition . Fine for light work and coure for heavy fading- sun damage . And then of course a good seal with some wax .

Fowing water and foam will shine most.
The real $&&: is getting it clean of all the sun screen, fish slime, oily sprays. Sweat and other junk. Especially water side.
I will mix dawn and denatured alcohol power wash and then wipe it down with mineral spirits (cuts waxed and other oil fuel) then hand was with a standard cleaning. That should get you to the base and revele if buffing is needed before useing something like mequires mirror glaze.
You can do the mineral spirits first first if you know you have a water repellent on the hull. As that coat will block all attempts to clean under it. As the dawn and alcohol water may or may not penetrate (depends on product)
Just about any store bought product for boats or boats will also work. The difference is normally the amount of elbow grease you have to add to get it rightLast edited by Motv18; 10-01-2019 at 09:41 PM.
