    updates on stuff

I got some decent progress the last couple of days. The motor cases got soda blasted. I didn't get all the black paint off. If I had to keep the nozzle sitting on a spot to get to raw aluminum, I new it wasn't going to peel off come paint time. It also worked great for getting the old Loctite 518 off the flanges.

Today I got all the intake passages cleaned up..............starting in the manifold, and then the front case. Pics posted below.

I have got all the bodywork done for the cowl. I just need to cut the louvers in and paint it. Pics soon.

I am also working on my lower unit.............but no pics yet.

I tried to get the best angle with the lighting to show the smoothed areas. If it shows to be sanded, it had either a sharp corner or casting in the way. In the intake manifold, there were large ridges in every barrel. It would be interesting to put the motor together (no crank just the case) and flow the stock case versus a smoothed and radiused case on a flowbench. After all the smoothing, I am glad that I am putting intake stuffers in here.....one set under the cages and the other the old rubber stuffers against the cages.

Good question sir. I haven't put the halves together yet. I did the smoothing in pieces. I will post that after I do that. Thanks for asking the question. It gives me a new direction to look at when I do this on another motor. I know now that the smoothing is not finished until you put the cases and manifold together. Great question to ask me.............

It would be awful if I put it together(completely) and see something I missed on the smoothing and leave it be because I have the engine assembled and don't feel like taking needle bearings apart again.

Last one I checked somehow had a bit of a step between front case and block. I reached in with a sharpie marker and found the mismatch, then smoothed out the marked areas.

I'm glad you mentioned the halves. I actually was referring to the bolt heads in the intake.

I did have some bumps from the bolt bosses in either the front half or the intake. I think there were 5.........one of the runners didn't have it. I ground them down to flush with the surrounding area.............after I checked if I could actually remove 'em without consequences. All was fine.

    More blending............poooey

I was heading in to the shop today with intentions of cutting my cowl for the louvers. I had only a few hours to work on it, so that was my goal. But before I did that, I wanted to make a list of bolts needed for the motor(because of powder coating, I cant use plain bolts for looks......stainless)and to check the mating of the engine halves. SO,I made the bolt list and then sat the front half on the back. Do you know every single port opening had at least an 1/8 flange on one side where the air would hit it straight on and cause turbulence? I was amazed. So, I carefully sat it on the lower and traced every flange with a sharp#2 pencil to highlight the areas needing attention. Once I worked in those areas, the lineups were fantastic. I am finally done the blending. Unfortunately, I didn't think I was gonna be doing this stuff today, so I didn't have anything to take a pic. I will do that on Monday so you can see the blending at the case flanges.

I am still learning about the principles about a 2 stroke motor. But I am pretty well versed on a 4 stroke. My latest creation in that world is a small block ford 302 stroker making over 650 hp.......non turbo, non nitrous. It is a Kennebell supercharger though. I only bring that up to say that I am not a novice in the engine world. I understand the similarities between both worlds...........that they are nothing more than air pumps. Make them more efficient............they make more power for you. With that being said, I know that I have made this crossflow breathe a whole lot easier right up to the intake ports and on the way out of the motor through the adapter. I just wonder how much hp I have actually gained compared to stock castings. I am not talking about the ports being opened up, just the other stuff. ......cleaning up and blending and removing obstructions.

Here's what I still need to do for better breathing still. I need to drill the holes in the lower. I am going to drill from the inside out and just chamfer them on both sides. That way it will make its way out the mid a little easier. Its just easier to drill that way I think. I need to fill in the exhaust holes on the megaphone. Does anyone know what the length of the megaphone should be for optimum power? I do not think I will dry stack the exhaust.......for now. I will keep the inner can in place for now. I have the stock m-phone for a 175. I can weld on extensions if necessary. I actually thought of extending them to keep water off the exhaust longer, but how long is too long?

My other engine world...........302 based stroker in a 1987 mustang

Nice 5.0 , which heads, Ford motorsport block?
    OK , the pics, nice.
Cork , that drove me nuts after a few miles.

It's something to see those mismatched openings.

Afr 205 renegade heads, Dart block, custom cam .600 lift Intake .601 lift exhaust
    300 duration on a 114 centerline.

And yes, I was definitely surprised to see the bad casting matchup from the factory. I wonder if OMC did a cleanup on the 2.6 xp block? I only heard of them doing the scalloping and porting.

The blueprinting, clean up will show gains , efficiency no doubt.

    OMC ccc engines

Not really related to the thread, I found an old ad OMC made about the CC and CCC engine. I then went and looked up some under hood pics as well. When was this made? And what horsepower did it put out? I saw the price tag was 6000 for the v6.
