WILLABE HELP - Need your opinion, Mike Butler you can chine in also - chine - get it?

I now own this very red Shooting Star. BHB 68-210-6 was a '68 Star with a 1250 BP. Boat currently has a 1250 w/SSM. I have traced the boats history back to 2003 when an Alabama buyer bought it from someone n New Hampshire, seller and buyer have both passed. Peter Switzer bought it from Alabama in 2009, then sold it to the guy I bought it from in 2015.
Somewhere you said there were two red Metalflake Stars bought to showcase the 1250 BP against the OMC. In '68 I don't think Stars would have been flake - will get P Switzer on that question. The boat all decaled up was as bought in 2003 by Alabama buyer.
I am trying to determine if my boat might have been a Merc boat. Hunting for a KM asset tag or where one might have been, so far no luck. JFL says he remembers one around '71 at Plt 33 in the boat yard, but doesn't remember where it went - maybe company sale.Click image for larger version.

Some pix attached for considerations. Notice the KM decal on the deck. Boat is on a 1968 Karavan galvanized trailer. Thanks!Click image for larger version.

The coloured pictures I believe show a 1970 or 1971 - the two red bands above and below the Mercury started in 1970 - in 69 the red band was solid with the Mercury in white reversed out of the red stripe.

Serial number wise block is a '68 sitting on a '69 mid. Wrap might be from something else. Just got it home, need to sort all that out.

I did write about the two red Stars, but I can't find the thread. My screen only shows three pages of threads and what I wrote is older than what I'm shown ..... anybody know where all the old threads went?

Back in the Day ..... there was a building on the river managed by Carl Frazier, Plt.5. Inside of that building was an engineering group managed by Dick Snyder, Plt.33 (the Blueroom). Hi Performance motor and prop testing was done by Snyder's group using Checkmates, Switzers, Molinari's and other performance hulls. I ran many tests with the new 1250 on a black/silver flake Star.
Fast forward to the dealer congress for the introduction of the 1968 model line. It was held in 1967 at the Pioneer Lodge in Oshkosh. Frazier was responsible for getting all of the equipment ready for this show. Besides the line of production motors, he was given the task of setting up two Shooting Stars to run a demonstration for the dealers showing Merc's new 1250 BP superiority over OMC's GT 115. Frazier ordered two identical red metalflake Stars for this demonstration.
When the dealer show was over, the Stars were transferred to Snyder's group. That allowed him to retire the black star, which I bought. The red Stars were used for the next year or so for the big motor tests. I remember the 1250 stacker making it's way down the river on a red Star. Soon after, most of the the testing was switched to the Molinari tunnel boats.
I'm pretty darn sure the Stars were metalflake. They were purchased in 67, not 68. I mention Frazier and Snyder because, if they are still with us, they may know what was done with those two boats. I can't think of anyone else that might know where they went.

I know where Carl lives hers in FDL, I think he still has his wits about him, when the weather gets good I'll take the boat over there. Dick lives just South of Oshkosh, I can stop and see him also. Going to ask Peter Switzer when they started doing Metalflake. Thanks for the reply.

Dick is probably your best bet. I don't think you have an old Merc boat, but you've got a great boat nonetheless. A 1250 with a speedmaster should run in the low to mid 80's with just you and a six gallon tank on board. Some people hate them and some love em'. I loved driving the one I owned, just had to know when conditions were right to go for a spin. I remember you mentioning that you have had a couple 'experiences' on Lake Winnebago. Rest assured that this boat will give you another one if you aren't paying attention to what it tells you. It is definitely not a Lake Winnebago Sunday cruising hull. I took several friends for a ride, I don't think any of them asked to go for another.
