Does Merc still make an oil suitable for the 260/280?
What's the correct oil to run in a 2.5 offshore these days?
From the manual: Oil Recommendation - Use Mercury Precision 2-Cycle Performance Blend Oil.
Emergency Use Only: If Mercury Precision 2-Cycle PerformanceBlend Oil is not available, Mercury Precision Premium Plus 2-CycleTC-W3 Outboard Oil may be substituted. This oil should not be usedon a regular basis.
Looks like Mercury only sells the newer Opti DFI oil and the premium plus today. Maybe go to another oil company? I read a few threads about Pennzoil full synthetic working well but it looks like that's not available anymore.

Mercury makes an awesome 2 stroke racing oil, its red in color and designed for higher rpm, I've been running it at 32:1 on my stv for years, 245, 260, 300+ hp ect.

My customers love Red Line in their race engines 32:1>8000 RPM , lot less ash content than Mercury less carbon build up , smoke and stink !!! Been using it for years since Pen 100% was discontinued... Pricey but so are power heads !!

Thanks guys. Checked out the Redline racing oil and it's about the same price as the fuel to mix it with. These motors are thirsty and expensive!
Looks like the Merc racing oil is around $50 per gallon. I can't find it on the Mercury site, but it's on Amazon.

The Merc Racing 2 stroke oil is what im currently running. It has been privately tested and was held in high regard. I also ran Redline 2 stroke oil and it is a very high quality oil. I can get the Merc oil local for about the same as i can order Redline for.

The new red merc racing oil has very little ash burns clean and is Leaps and Bounds better than their Old Mercury Racing oil when using it with my drag motor I noticed no carbon buildup in the bearing surfaces re maculate no Bluing the funny thing the Mercury Racing oil they found it by mistake it was used for a different application Redline oil is a very good oil unfortunately it's kind of a pain in the ass to get around where I live the vendors are always out of it I used to be able to get Redline oil for $30 a gallon last year jump to $55 a gallon
