    Is OI the same as APBA UI? How long after the 99in motors came out did the manufacturers build 89in motors? I was around in those days but those motors were above my pay grade.

    I think its basically the same. Most UIM "O" classes allow prototypes (no minimum production) and alcohol fuel.

    Directly: Merc started 99's in 68 and the last year of Merc's 89ci was 69. Remember that the 1966 1100 was not a 99 and not a 89, so it was a UJ in the US before 99's. OMC's last 89 was 1968, but did not make a 99 until 1971, in 69 OMC made a 92 and a one year 96. The 92 was made alonside the OMC 99 until 1978. Both companies supplied a very few special 89 racers to a few drivers to continue winning in OI for a few years after the fishing 89's were discontinued - trying to be able to say they swept all classes at races.

    merc decals

    these are originals. notice the 1100 has red stripes on the wrap cowl decals, not on the 950.
