    Electric priming pump

What do you use to prime an engine instead of the primer bulb?

I use portable tanks and if I leave the vent closed and the tank so much as sees a reflection of the sun, it pressurizes.
Some use electric fuel pumps. Holley makes a red and a blue that covers all applications of horsepower for outboards.

Well that's a good thing , so in other other words ur low pressure pump pulled it thru?

The carters like this are gerator pumps. Nothing to wear out. Flow -thru design. They work very well, and are extremely reliable. Use 3/8'' fittings only. 3-6 psi and up to 110 gph. The one referenced is 100gph which is plenty of fuel even when drawing thru and pushing thru filters. These pumps push, a lot better than they pull fuel. So mount close to the source and slightly lower if possible.

I run a small inline filter from my tank pick up then the pump is in next in line. After the pump, I push through a water separator then a Fram HPG1, into a slosh tank. The slosh tank has an intake line in the middle, a feed line (to the motor) in the bottom, and a return line to the main tank out the top. The return line has an inline fuel pressure regulator set at 3 psi that forces the slosh tank to stay full and preload the VST at 3 psi. Every outboard that I have (aside from a 50 yamaha) is rigged like this.Click image for larger version.

This might be a little over kill but over the years I have learned two things.

    1. Keep fuel in the motor and it will live-
    2. Keep water in the motor and it will live-

The whole concept of using the Carter pump is that it is a "lifting" pump that provides high volume @ a low pressure. Perfect for boats that have a pick-up tube mounted at the top of the tank. I believe the little Carters can lift 24" and still maintain their rated output numbers. And do not need to be regulated before going into a VST.

Squeeze ball , filter , pulse pump , filter , VST ( needle+ seat ) , screen , Walbro hi-pres pump all seemed compact , but with a lot of restrictions.

I Used a (big fitting) Mercruiser filter , Carter 4600 lift pump , to a stringer mounted sump box / Bosch 044 , fuel rail to a little Aeromotive regulator back to the box , and the overflow into one of the filter inlets . No air bubbles make it down and around the corner to run thru the pump and depending on injectors. It could run 30 to 90 lbs and never make a peep ..
