I build NO motors with OEM stock parts there are upgrades that will save you lots of greef after all why put back in an OEM part that’s proved to be a weak junk part that causes failure after failure just because some OEM idiot engineer placed a sub par part in the OEM motor to save a nickle ( plastic con rod bearings )!

I use mid grade Pro Marine pistons sent to John Marles in Ca to top pin , with the pro Marine billet ( Mercury high performance ) con rod bearings the ONLY way to go , building a motor like it came is like taking a bath and putting on dirty underwear back on (not smart ) I refuse to install a known bad actor in a rebuild to say its OEM or to save $10.00, after all its down go back with premium parts that has a chance to make a motor have a long run life , take advice ( or not ) from a builder that SUCCESSFULLY does it EVERYDAY!!!!

Stay away from forged pistons on steel sleeved engines you’ll be sorry !!

Deacon , Sorry but I order individually no kits that offer with the premium high end better parts that will fit your 225 PM like a glove , email me a list of what your plan on replacing on this rebuild and I’ll look up the numbers and be glad to forward the parts I USE ...

For stock application, top pinned non forged pistons as Jay mentioned before, and would be better. Would this kit be fine to use with the exception of maybe upgrading the bearings? I would assume steel caged rod bearings are included and arn't plastic.

Was inquiring about this set up, due to my builder stating these kits are really good for a stock 225PM. Just chimed in on Deacon's thread because I found myself in a rebuild predicament too. Don't mean any disrespect.

I have never understood buying a kit. You will end up with stuff you wont use. Why not just buy what you need? That way you get what you want and have no compromises to make.

Rock +1 ,,,, the parts you hand pick are not only metal impregnate gaskets not junk green paper crap that come in “kits” that will not live , the oil seals from Pro are much better than OEM the metal is thicker and holds the seal straighter ( no leaks ) after the mid grade pro Marine pistons return from top pinning I weigh them all find the lightest and that becomes my constant matching the heavier to the constant as it do the rods the same way that way the rotater is all the same and runs super smooth ....
