Actual weight of new 20” Merc V6 4-stroke?

Just curious if anyone has put one on a scale? Having a hard time believing it’s only 15 lbs more than my 150hp Mercury 4-stroke which is actually 477lbs according to the link below. The new V6 lower unit is larger, it has a traditional 3-ram trim system vs the single cylinder on the SOHC I4 and DOHC along with an extra 2 cylinders. The V8 shares everything with the V6 except it has 2 extra cylinders yet it weighs 35lbs more?Doesn’t make sense to me, but the V8s that have been independently weighed are actually coming in around 560lbs which is a little more than advertised is why I ask and hoping the V6 isn’t really around 525lbs with cowling as I’m looking to upgrade though hesitant on adding 50lbs more weight to the jackplate.

Ya, I reported the weight of the 250R as 570 Lbs. and some didn't believe me. The cowl is heavy, the oil in the engine adds up. They aren't light. I would guess the V6 is about 510 to 520 real world weight.

Subtracting for fluids I can understand, but oil doesn’t weigh as much as the discrepancies being reported. Maybe it was an honest mistake they forgot to add in the cowl, that’s the only thing that makes sense to me. The physical size difference of a new 175hp 4-stroke vs 150hp 4-stroke is obvious in person and it’s hard to believe the girl is being honest about her weight though maybe she’s just not good at hiding it. The tag on the 175hp Pro XS I saw in person actually read 482lbs, not sure why it’s different as I don’t believe there’s any options in that particular model.

That’s my fear it’s as much if not more than the outgoing DFI 3.0L 2-stroke. Guess non of the lightweight speed boats have strapped one on because of the lower unit being a speed limiter, but also thought they may be too heavy for some hulls.

Any reason the sport master lower couldn’t be swapped on a V6? The driveshaft and shift shaft shows to be the same part # as V8, figure the lower mounts from 300R could be swapped on pretty easily

Speaking of, any chance the new Merc V8 takes it’s record one day?

This is actually why I'm a big fan of the 4 cyl engines from both Merc and Yamaha. The 150 ProXS is pretty nice out of the box. The Vmax SHO 150 / 175 are also nice, and have 1.86 gears. The V6 is gigantic. Keep in mind the Sportmaster on the R engines is the larger one found on the 400R, not the smaller diameter one from the previous gen motors.

An article looking at the mid power outboards.

I have heard that to keep the weight down all the castings are getting very thin on lots of 4S Mercs

Ever weighed one of SHOs to see if their advertised weight of 480 for the I4 and 505 for the V6 includes the cowling?

    Happy Easter to all!
