Here are some pictures of the start, Art is #147, Bill Sr is 328, Terry is #898. The other boats I know of are UJ class (100ci); Dick Ingebretsen #185, Duane Timm #245. I was looking for anyone In the pictures that could be Clarence Archer, but I don't see any BP powered Hustlers that are visible in the shots.

I remember Clarence. Real nice guy.
I ran UJ in St Mary’s in 74. Ended up 3rd.

Yes, Mark Nelson sent me this pic some time ago. I don't remember the driver's name though. I think the pic was taken at Rockford.

Stix was a member of our club and was a pretty hard racer . The last race I remember him going to was at Hyco Lake 1977 / 78 . I can't remember clearly but pretty sure he was not at the Nationals in Euafala in 78 . There is only a few of us left from the Speedmasters [3 ] and we all stay in touch . They were all very good to me , I was the youngest and with the fairest complextion . I will need help getting pictures to you , I am not all that good with computers . Great , great memories and so glad the Speedmasters of Washington D.C. was part of my life. Sunday mornings was our semi test day and we would test on the Potomac River at the end of National airport in Washington
, half a dozen guys would show up and the test sesson would always turn into a picnic. Racing in the 70's with the Speedmasters and Southern Maryland Boat club would keep you off the streets , there was a race in Region 4 almost every week end. There were many good drivers in Region 4 , with so many races it made for pretty talented drivers.

Steve, Thank you for the info, I would love to see the pictures you have. I'll Help any way I can. Did you come out to Rockford, Illinois with another driver (I'm guessing about 1978) to run MOD100? I think the other driver was Rudy Foote who was good friends with Hervat. If it was you, you should probably remember because it was a very long course on the Rock River.

Steve, do you still have the Velden with the Super Strangler that you restored? Was Stix's Hustler black ? I'm testing my memory. It's funny some things I can remember like yesterday other things I don't remember at all. I thought I remembered him in another boat , but really can't remember.

Just about any race Rudy went too , I was there as well . I very much doubt Rudy was friends with John Hervat , that said the owner of the boat Rudy drove spent lots of $$$ with John . Phil O'berry [ R.I.P. ] owned the Velden and he had John do most of the work that ever needed to be done . Rudy was a member of the Southern Maryland Boat Club and raced in the UJ class .I think some time around the 1976,77,78 era , the class was changed to Mod 100 . Rudy never raced the Mod 100 class .In 77,78 he began racing the Mod U class for a very short time . Rudy doing well speak with his a couple times a year
