Looking for new GPS Speedometer
I am wanting to purchase GPS Speedometer and obviously an antenna too.
I've never had one, trying to figure this out.
I seen many on amazon, ebay etc...not really that expensive.
Then I seen some super expensive one too. (some crazy price tags too)
I do believe you get what ya pay for.
Livorsi, from what I read here, has had some troubles with their antennas in the past.
What is a good GPS unit? (without breaking my wallet)
What the difference between a good one and one from ebay that cost $45 ?
Suggestion? If you think this is fun, wait til next weekend!

Just put one of those 50 dollar ones in my boat this winter but have to wait till the ice melts to try it.If it works good its a good cheap buy if not oh well.Only thing it don't have is a top speed recall but I always have my garmin in the pocket or bag with me.
I may be slow but im ahead of you. *hit's only ankle deep but you went in head first.

I have a Livorsi monster GPS with recall in the STV but after purchasing the Mercury Vessel View Mobile device, mounting the "black box under the cowl and using the Blue Tooth tied to my Cell, that's really all you need and it has recall + you can monitor numerous other engine parameters. Updates just as fast as the Livorsi.

the cost is generally in relation to what frequency the gps chip runs at , your phone is 1 hz, race car data loggers run the gps at 100hz

Any idea on the relationship between the 1 hz & 100 hz with regard to updating time. I always thought the response/ update time was how strong the gps was receiving the signal.

that is the update period, once a second or 100x a second, not a big deal if you just want a continuous straight line speed
saying that, lots of manufacturers try to confuse you with not saying if thats calculation rate or output rate?
You notice is mostly when you use an app to show g forces which lots of free vid stuff will now calculate from the position change.
Lots of stuff is now starting to be 10hzLast edited by powerabout; 04-29-2019 at 05:47 AM.
