Ten m.p.h. isn't much LOL "only night and day"...and the 1.60 gear has netted another two over the 1.75 on test boats so far...

The motors are the same price. You have the choice of what gear ratio you want. The 1.60 is coming in 2020 motors which have incurred a 4% price increase over the 2019. Mine should be ready to ship within the next couple of weeks.

Thanks. 10 mph faster for the R motor is impressive, especially with the "affordable" $2100 Hill prop.

Being a cynic here, but would Merc detune the last 300XS production to make the 300R look better? Until Randy's comparisons, I am guessing no one really knew how the 2 motors would compare.

I think Merc would do that.

Now someone needs to convince the gang out at Nordic Boats to set up one of there new 21' SR/Crossfires for speed instead of skiing with a 300R and see what it will run for top MPH.

The 21 molds were changed at some point I believe. Mercury did not go backwards on the XS in recent production years. Nobody else "all of the new bass boats etc." ever saw a difference nor have any of the guys racing them and there are several different model years on Super Stock boats. I also asked a couple of guys from Mercury racing the question point blank and was told absolutely not.

Mercury has been working on this new motor for the past 8 years and they were well aware of how much better then the XS platform this would be.

I can't speak from first hand experience, only hearsay, but several of the Bass Cat Boats running the later model 250 ProXS 2-stroke are not getting the same numbers as they were 3 or more years ago (before announcement of the new 250 ProXS 4-stroke).

So I guess a guy off the street needs to pay somewhere between $23k and $30k for a new bass 300R with a 1.60 Sportmaster and 3 years of free warranty.

The MTI 340 test boat in Miami I believe had the new 1.60 gears, and was a couple MPH faster than the 1.75 geared boat, 115 MPH vs 113. Better prop selection, and on small light boats, will be better overall. Nice option to have.
