That port motor looked lower on the trans from the start. I bet it was loose from the get go and just vibrated the rest of the way off.

Yeah anyone who would install a verado on anything but a anchor shackle has already had there pride beaten out of them. I can only hope the bolt was left loose on purpose. To allow that poorado to go down to the bottom and achieve its true purpose as an anchor.

OK, this hits close to home.
1-The kid should not be on a promotional run like this where limits are being pushed
2-No one but the kid had PFDs on. PFDs should have been on the entire time, but especially after the accident.
3-Cameraman keeps moving around the boat while underway
4-After the accident, coming back in, the kid is allowed to roam around the boat, standing on the tube, etc.
All this goes against good seamanship and common sense. They should have all been somberly grateful that no one was injured. No matter what the reason, the captain is responsible for the safety of his crew, passengers, and vessel. This guy did not demonstrate that.

This just shows how we are paying more some stuff been manufactured but quality/workmanship is going down. Six bolts wouldn't even stop that from happening. During inspection of other motor you can see the bolts wasn't long enough because nuts flush with bolt end. The aluminum rail that broke was poorly welded broke right at both weld joints

I too agree with XStream the bolts were never tight. I see all too often someone wrenching on something and finger tightening the bolts followed with the statement of "I'll tighten them down later"

I take the simple policy of tightening down with a torque wrench EVERY FASTENER INSTALLED EVERY TIME so as not to make silly errors. If you use a torque wrench? The tension is always correct and you never have to worry about stripping threads off fasteners. Followed with above lock nuts, locktite etc. For extreme safety I use safety wire like aircraft although my engine mount bolts on my boats are never safety wired and my guess is none of yours are but worth the mention

Also shows the potential danger of shock mitigating seating. You tend to overdrive/abuse the boat. In a situation where only the coxswain has shock mitigating seating the rest of the crew is in for a bad day.

55ft/lbs on glass and 90 on metal. It's not that hard..... but some people cant help themselves.

Yeah no doubt. Especially the new hi power electric impacts its very difficult to use them to tighten anything down as its too much or too little and very hard to modulate. At least with air impact you could get a feel for it which I used to do way back when but nothing beats the torque wrench yes I am now officially a broken record

Small update. The guy went and retrieved the engine. Then talks about how great the place I "assume" rigged the motor is for letting him borry stuff to retrieve it. Saying they are the most "clutch" group of techs and if you need anything call them.... anything other then a torque wrench I reckon. Motor mounted right on the stand and the midsection is 100% complete.

Mercury has nothing to do with the stupidity of the rigger. But the video of them hammering the boat might void the insurance too.......
