    Setback for 87 Norris Craft 17.5', 200hp

I am in the process of switching from my fixed to a hydraulic jack plate from Bob's Machine Shop. My current fixed plate is 6", and they also recommended 6", but I am wondering if I wouldn't benefit from an 8"...

On slick water when I am fully trimmed, I can only get to about 65 - 70mph comfortably. Right in there is where it starts to get a bit squirmy on me. This very well could be the upper limits of the boat length plus motor size, so in my theory setting motor back a tad further could help me here, especially with the hole shot.

The only additional mods I have done is a nose cone and a 27* SS 3-blade prop, cupped by DAH Propellers.

12" seems like it may be ideal for your 19', but I think might be too much for me. I just don't know the physics behind the setback to gauge how much is too much for my setup.

Generally if your motor can be at level or nuetral trim while the boat is at exact perfect trim angle for maximum speed , the setback is great . Most bass boats need a little positve trim to help them out . Hf ...
