short hydraulic jack
https://www.amazon.com/Strongway-Hyd...5PHQ5HWBWK8DKQ
The jack above is too tall. I need something low enough to fit under a 50 year old Lotus. The jack I have works if my tires are not flat. It's too low to fit under the car when I have a flat.
Are there any especially short jacks?
thanks

Not sure how low your car is, but I use this to get underneath a stock C-5. I still have to drive onto 2x10's to get the car high enough to roll the jack underneath. Best I could find without going to a lift.

Nice jack, just picked up the equivalent at HarborFreight for $89 on sale. 3 1/8 to 19 1/4" range.
Not something you would like to carry around in the boot though.

You could get one of these from Summit Racing>>> https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-917072/overview/
Or one of these if ya wanna get from min. 3.5" to max 17" lift in 3 pumps>>>http://www.completehydraulic.com/hyd...cks-jm516.html
Both are aluminum jacks, about 30lbs. lighter than steel floor jacks of same size.Last edited by CDave; 03-31-2019 at 12:21 AM.

you’ll find what you need here. Use these to get you high enough for your floor jack.

I am looking for something to have in the trunk in case I get a flat tire. I actually used the spare tire yesterday - it was the original spare that came with the car 35 years ago. The tire still had the stickers on it. Never used. But it did not hold air and when it went flat under load, it was a bugger getting the car jacked up again. I used some wood as a lever and pushed the car up enough for my wife to get the jack in position.
The body is fiberglass so can't be jacked. There are 4 jack points, one by each wheel arch. There is a hole in the body and the jack has to be about 1" diameter to go through the hole and hit a steel reinforcement in the body.
Much of the chassis is also too weak to be jacked. My first chassis got bent by lifting the car by the differential using a floor jack. Combined the body and chassis are strong enough, or at least were strong enough by 60's expectations.

Another thing, do they make run flats for your wheel size?

Might have to make something. Does anyone make an aftermarket jack? I bought a couple of these for my Porsche.
Or you may find a jack from another car and weld a piece of square stock to it.

13" skinny run flats? I bought new tires this year. Selection is very limited. The Tire Rack had only 3 choices. Two off brand all season rim protectors and Vredestein Sprint Classics. The Spring Classics are modern rubber with a vintage tread pattern.
I think I might get a scissors jack and get my brother to do some welding to pick up the Lotus jack points.

have an extension piece made that you can bolt on the rim with 2 of the wheel nuts, a small hydraulic will lift it to get the car jack under!

what wheel nuts? LOL
At any rate, if I'm trying to remove a wheel...
I'm going to check my Miata scissors jack for height. If it's OK, I will buy another Miata jack from a wrecker's and get my brother to weld on a nub. If the Miata jack is too tall, the Lotus message board recommends a Porsche scissors jack. My assumption is that even used Porsche jacks are more money than regular car parts, but if that's what it takes, so be it.

I second the Porsche scissor jack. I had a 944 Turbo for several years and the jack was around 3” tall if I recall, and I think could be modified to make it a bit skinnier. There’s lots of dead non-turbo 944s of negligible residual value that you could scavenge from. It used to fit under my much-lowered VW Jetta too.

How big is the square? Would this work? I can measure the pad or perhaps you could get a spec from the folks that sell this jack. Under $130 bucks.
