OOOPS too late! A hybrid uses both battery and outside generation. Diesel/electric is a total different thing.

Got batterys on some offshore vessels now, not for long running but it covers blackout conditions for a few minutes, some have lpg fuel cells as well.
Diesel Electric works as you can just keep adding gen sets when you need more power so they run efficiently 99% of the time.
Allows high speed diesels that are cleaner than medium speed ones and then easy to add fuel cells.

it worked as they built 3 more I think.

    Need to define hybrid
Do you mean 2 sources of power, ie battery and an engine regardless of how that battery got charged?

I was under the impression that hybrids (such as cars) have both. That is how they define it, is it not?

So even a tesla with a generator in the boot is a hybrid.....Not a true ev. HAha, If your going any real distance, you better carry one.

hybrid is vague and used differently in different modes of transport

I don't want a damn nanny computer telling me which way to go to the next charging station when i'm traveling. I want to get lost all on my own....

you can get lost but its great to have a nav application that tells you where the next gas station is

Oh okay. I see. So a flux capacitor and a D cell will qualify. Gotcha!

How in the world did we ever get along without all this nanny prompting. Takes all the adventure out of traveling....

Well, if I am going somewhere in particular, I plot a course using something called a "map". I really like something like Google maps so it is easy to calculate mileage within a comfortable range to refuel. GPS is okay, but I have seen them be inaccurate many times.

Even Google Maps and Mapquest sends you on an adventure if you let them choose the route for you

Want to see a real hybrid? This thing has it going on......And it uses hydrogen, my favorite form of fuel.
