225 Optimax problem
I have two 2003 225 Mercury Optimax one of them me gave me an issues this weekend Im hoping you guys can help.
We spent the weekend at the beach with the boat. on day 1 it ran great 5 hours of running around at various speeds no issues.
Sunday we were getting ready to go out. Fired up the engines, warmed them up, idled out (about 15 minutes of idling) went to get on plain at about 2500 rpm one engine would go above 2500rpms and a long beep. As soon as you go under 2500 RPMs no issues beep at all and seem to run fine. Smart craft gauges showed check engine light. As soon I went below 2500 the check engine light went out. The other engine ran great they pull from the same tank. Anything else to look at?
Did a compression test today and it has me scratching my head.... Is there a compression release on these engines? Both engine read crazy numbers.
Good engine has 3 reading 20 psi nd 3 reading 0 psi
Bad engine has 3 reading 20 psi and 3 reading 0 psi
both tests were done with no plugs in and batteries fully charged. Maybe my Mac gauge is taking a dump?
Flushed the engines today and they seem to run fine in netural and no strange noises.2000 Air Nautique

I think you might have nailed it.... Reason I say this is when I was flushing it I heard the belt slipping I forgot to mention it and was going to deal with it when I figured out what was wrong. Now that I am thinking about it I remember the voltage was low at one point in the day but later it was normal. I guess it looks like I need an alternator.

Air injectors open when starting to back fill the air side and get pressure up. no need for it if running a buzzer though. Plugs also look normal if running 91 ( the most common alcohol free)
Did it turn on the limiter or just sound alarm.
Regulator draw key off .584mA key on 150mA
it should have a code stored if you know anyone who can read them since the smart didn’t display the code when it went off.

Make sure the onboard oil tank's float is not defective. Jump the wire to eliminate that.

Faulty shift switch. The engine has a rev limit when in neutral. If the switch is faulty then the ecu doesn't know when its in gear and so limits rpm and sets off the alarm.
