WELL , last night shot the 224 Valkyrie and heard bullet hit pig no blood anywhere searched for 20 minutes no blood , it bugged me cause I don’t usually miss , took several AR’s to range and the 224 was off 8” to the left and 3” low ?????I made adjustments to optic to dead on at 100 yards but the gun was zeroed six months ago and not removed from safe until I shot , wondering how these things get off with high end optics and no bangs or bumps to the stand ???? Educate me !!!

PS Buzzards showed this AM I didn’t miss pig just snuck off and died without bleeding , might have had a heart attack

As far as your scope being off the only thing I can think of if it wasn't knocked off by impact is when you adjust the zero on a scope sometimes the springs/internal parts inside can hang up and at a later date they become unstuck throwing off your zero. I've read you should give your scope a couple of raps with your knuckle after zeroing to make sure the internals are moving freely. Then fire again to make sure the zero is still good. If you're like me and have arthritic knuckles from decades of wrench turning a light tap with a hammer handle will do the trick.

Jay if you would zero that 224 Valk at 50 yrds you would be able to shoot out to 225 yrd. aiming dead center of your crosshair and only be around 2" low at around 225yrds. It would give you two zero distances when you zero at close range like 50 yrds. You would have a zero at 50yrds. and again at 190-200 yrds. And only be around 1.3" high at 120yrds, between the two zeros.

This type of zeroing is called Point Blank Range shooting/zeroing. Some people set it up to be 3" high/low to get longer zero distances and that is fine for hunting pigs and deer size game. It gives you longer distance aiming using just the center of the reticle. No need to dope/adjust the scope until you are past your 2" low mark. Makes life easier in the field.
This is the way I like to site in my centerfire rifles.

With a 40yrd zero you would be zero at 40yrds, 2.6" high at around 150yrds, zero again around 230yds and 2" low around 260yrds.

With Point Blank Range zeroing the bullet trajectory would be like the red line in this pic.

My feeders are set up at 120 yards from blind I have tactical optics that are set up to be zeroed at 100 dead center then have a ballistic scale inside optic that’s set to the caliber and speed of the round fired , you send in information and optics company sends you chart that is matched dot line dot etc so after game is range found information can be transferred to optic and if all’s correct bullet billistic is right on all the way to 1000 yards

Love my AR-10! I sleep with it under my bed at nite, in case I hear something downstairs.
Of course, I can choose my pleasure, I also keep a 12 gauge pump with the choke removed, and loaded with Pumpkin Balls.

Stay away from that "Russian Ammo", its terrible.

I too own a PSA AR10 20” heavy barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor simply too heavy ( 14.5 lbs ) I love my AR 15’s 20” heavy barrel in 224 Valkyrie and 6.5 Grendel they each weigh only 8 lbs ....

I read an interesting ballistic comparison of two of the top AR calibers a .308 verses 6.5 Grendel. These comparison were nothing but ballistic not rifles . The 6.5 Grendel is the normal largest round able to be use in the AR 15 platform (7 lbs average ) the .308 will normally come in the much heavier AR 10 ( 14 lbs average ) I own both and have weighed both .

I was amazed the 6.5 Grendel round out performed the .308 10-1 and was so noticeable the tester came home and immediately sold his .308 also I learned the long barrel models are NOT more accurate that I thought and was proven even a 16” barrel was perfered over the 18,20,24” barrels just because of weight reduction and over all length and was not less accurate ... I y’all remember I had issues with my Grendel’s cycling but after lots of help from my S&F brothers sent me down the correct road and now after tuning its one of my favorite 4 AR rifles I own ...

Went to range today to check the AR 15 6.5 Grendel accuracy I’m using the up coming week ( I always check accuracy on any weapon I’m shooting at an animal just my procedure ) great 1” groupings @ 100 yards with cheap across the counter Hornady ammo .
Ive had the itch for a presision rifle , after all the research the BEST grouping of all I e did the research I’ve done the winner is the Thompson - Smith Wesson partnership it will consistently shoot .48” groups at 100 and hold very tight groups to 1000 yards in 6.5 Creedmoor caliber.
Well I own a Ruger American Preditor in 6.5 Creedmoor I took it to the range and it put 3 rounds in close to the same hole with a $3200 Swarovski atop . I think I own the best grouping thing I have the ability to shoot , if the pros can’t tighten up a long range massaged rifle as tight as this 67 year old fat man can do I’m just gonna keep what I have ...

My AR 15 PSA ( Palmetto State Armory ) in 6.5 Grendel at 100 yards today I can cover 5 rounds with a .50c piece it’s killed more hogs that cancer with zero issues , you can buy the complete upper for $299.00 and complete lower for $149.00 add a Rise trigger for $109.00 a quality mag C products for $15.00 without optics you now own a tack driver for less than $700.00 , I own 2 PSA’s AR 15’s 1 AR 10( 224 Valkyrie, a 6.5 Grendel, and 1 AR 10 6.5 Creedmoor ) Zero issues all three hog killing machines I am a Vortex guy and use their higher end optics as I’m old and can’t see as well as I used to , all are 3-24X50 with lit reticle Strike Eagle’s you can pay as much as you as you choose for AR’s or any rifle it all your call I will say I’m totally satisfied with the PSA rifles , all hog killers most at 125 yards at or around mid night , so they are hog killers not paper hole punchers kill shot for a feral hog is 2” below their ear , pretty accurate weapons at 125 yards at midnight I’d say, I will say if the hog shows he be dead ... I kill at least 3-4 a week and have 100% confidence in the rifles I’ve pieced together !!!

    Enjoy your shooting experience,
    Jay
