    pigtail is on the main harness. here's a pic

    Click on the 2nd pic from the Mercury online catalog. The first number is superceded by the second. Note the word TAN beside the first pn.

    Most all of the new pn on ebay will have the black connector and would not work with my motor.

    So all you did was change the water psi sensor? Did I read that correctly? I am having the exact same problem!!

    I was not getting a psi reading on my smartcraft gage, just read 0.0 all the time. I assume this would mean the sensor is not reporting data to the ecm as well. As soon as I installed the original pn sensor, the gauge starting reading psi and problem solved. Mine is a 2000 model.

    Another cause could be the in gear switch underneath the shifter rail. My understanding is this switch tells the ecm the motor is in gear and to look for certain info from sensors, ie, wp sensor.
