0ptimax 150 water pressure alarm everytime you try to get on plane.
Does anyone have a Optimax, especially an early one this is a 2000 model, that they wouldn't mind popping the hood and measuring the resistance on the purple and yellow wire and the black and orange wire at the connector for the water pressure sensor.
This one is showing 87 ohms between those two wires and open on all other wires.
Shows 0.0 psi all the time on the smartcraft gauge
The motor has a new water pump, strong pee stream all the time even when alarm is going off. I'm ohmed out all three wires to the ECM and they check good. Check pins and sockets they check good also.

Thanks, it never gets a chance to overheat. I've watched temp on smart gage and it is as low as 85 degrees when the alarm goes off. you can never get to 3000 rpms before it goes off and goes into guardian mode.

Did you dibbled check the water sensor in vst.
And i cant find an ohm spec in the book, and none handy to check.
Not getting pressure on the gauge but pee, might double check water pipe just to make sure it went back together right.
Yea if it isn’t reading pressure it will alarm then x seconds later kill power
might have to find a known good one.

thanks for replys, got a used ecu coming, will post results.

The purple/yellow should read 5V with key on, the black/orange is sensor ground, you could check continuity with that, and the third wire will be the output of the sensor to the ECU, and should be somewhere between 0.5V and 4.5V at all times the key is on. The sensor itself is actually the resistor. The DDT or a book should show you the acceptable values of the resistance of that sensor not powered up.
Hope this helps.A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...

thanks HydroSkreaming! I've been thinking the voltages would be the same as most of today's automotive sensors. Won"t be back home till April 2 to do some more checking. will post findings.

Checked sensor voltages, they're ok. Swapped ECM's and sensors, no change. I have a solid 9 to 10 psi on mechanical pressure gage all the time.

I know of a 135 06 which will sound the same alarm while slow cruising not on plane. If you slow to a troll the alarm will stop in a short while. If you quickly get on plane it will stop. It seems like it's the turbulence in the wash off the hull around the lower.
Somehow the pump doesn't like it.

Needs 11 psi to not set the alarm 3-6 at 1200 and 11+ at full throttle.
9-10 even at idle something would be clogged.

You sure it's water? Not oil tank alarm? Makes the same noise when the float falls into the bottom of the tank.

As mentioned above. Oil tank float or oil tank is low at the reservoir. 4 beeps and it will chop the power. You can close the loop at the bottom of the tank with a jumper wire and see if it cancels it out. I just dealt with this on my 300X.

To restate problem:
steady alarm, not beeping, sounds like overheat alarm
smartcraft gage displays "pressure" alarm, if you look in manual, this is for water pressure
0.0 block psi displayed on smartcraft gage at all times
goes into guardian mode as soon as you try to get on plane
The guy I bought the motor from just recently had never installed it. It ran fine on the motor stand. What I have found out is that it had an mercruiser inboard water pressure sensor. I went on the mercury website and found the correct pn and installed one of those. Same result.
I think there are two parts under the same pn, 859596. one has a black connector and the other has a tan colored connector. i had installed the one with the black connector which didn't work. so I'm looking on ebay and i see some of the same pn with tan connectors. I say what the hell, 20 bucks for a used one? sure. Installed it and problem solved, got pressure readings all the time on the smartcraft gage, no alarm, and motor runs great.
Maybe I just got a bad one in the first place or maybe there's a difference between the two, IDK, just passing this along.
Thanks to everyone who posted and tried to help

Interesting. Never thought of that. Are the pigtail wire colors the same in case I ever see one.
