    Exclamation Corvette C8

I'm really excited about it being a mid-engine car, but two things so far caught my attention:

First, if those images below are to be believed, it sure looks like its design is heavily influenced by Ferrari to me, which in itself is not a bad thing, but I would have hoped (so far) for a more unique look.

Second, it's been reported that the price will be... get ready... $170,000. This is something I cannot possibly believe. Maybe for some limited edition supercar version like a new ZR-1, but pricing the Corvette at over $100K would, in my opinion, drive it (pun intended) right out of its market demographic. I just can't believe that the base model Corvette would be that expensive.

There is reportedly a twin-turbo model, which would likely be the most expensive option, but still, that price seems out of line. Twin turbos is not the exotic configuration that it used to be 20 years ago.

Not really digging it. It' strays from whet the corvette lines have always been (long snout and swept back). I guess you can only recreate something so many different ways before having to go another direction. Excluding the C2, which IMO is the most beautiful vette, if not car ever produced, I think the C5 is the best looking of the last few decades. That thing looks like the new NSX . I guess this is what progress looks like. As for the price, it was only a matter of time. The charm of having a relatively modest priced car that could bump elbows with the big boys was gonna end eventually.

Glory days, they'll pass you by....

This car is supposed to be in a league of its own for the corvette brand. I was much more excited in 05' when the Z06 was released with its new power plant then I am now-must be getting old...

Wait a couple of years and they will be selling for half. My last new corvette sold for half of what I had paid 3 short years later. A few things that you should never buy new unless you have lots of money and its not a concern.

    1. corvette
    2. S class benz
    3. 7 series bmw
    4. cadillac
    5. skater

You can generally find all of them lightly used for half in a 3 years time.

I had a 2014 C7, it was a nice ride, did a lot of things well but overall I just couldn’t fall in love with it. Sold it after 18 months, got about 80% of what I paid for it, I got lucky.

The C7 and the C8 will be built side by side, they know the franchise can’t survive with the base model into 6 figures. OTOH, if it lives up to their hype and they’ve solved their horrid paint and panel fit issues they could probably sell every one they make for $170k. The trick to keeping the value up is not to ramp up to demand but build a fixed number and keep the demand up. The market saturation is what kills their resale.

I’ve read a base price in the $65k area. Top option being in the $115k for the twin snails, and all the gadgetry.

i think it will be a fine performing car, sure to be bullet quick. But given the generation I grew up in, it will never hold the mystique like the 1991ish ZR1 held for so long. That car was a phantom dream for a teenager.

Chevy has been flirting with mid engine Corvettes since the Corvette Indy and probably much earlier. The issue with front engine is it has performance limitations which simply cannot be overcome with simply adding power. This is why the new boosted Camaro womped the Corvette record around the ring because GM took the "Corvette must be fastest" rule away and let the divisions compete amongst themselves and let the best be the best without restraint. Plus this will cater well for GM's performance dominance in the hi-perf/super car fields. The Corvette was never considered a true super car because of its old time front engine leaf spring design even when it waxed all the other outfits best of the day.

It also sets the chassis up better for the inevitable EV drivetrains that are sure to arrive at some stage as an option or Kerrs type device. Style wise it looks like a win to me I like it and hope that the Camaro will grow even more prominent in the HP wars and the Corvette can take its place as king of the mid engine super cars and redefine what a super car that you can daily drive is all about. The only one to really meet that metric was indeed the NSX.

Innovate or Die is the company moto for Specialized bicycles and that applies to pretty much any machine. This timing is almost past due for GM as the younger market dont seem much interested in cars of any kind. Hope the performance is unrivaled to make us old geezers happy
