Have you had any interaction with the Allison's on this project? Be interesting to hear his thoughts. It definitely keeps the GS as an option, although I don't think I've ever seen anyone with less than a 225 HP bolted on to a GS.

Kudos to you on your project. That's a gorgeous boat

Thanks. Yes, set it up with Darris. He loves the lower HP engines, there's not much on the market light enough for the GS anymore, but this works. The ProXS version of this engine would be the ticket, if it had a sportmaster, it would be amazing. Trying to convince Merc Racing to make a "R" version of this 4 cyl or the new V6.

If you're a Yamaha guy, the 175 SHO would work well too.

Here's a video of the boat. I didn't have the best footage, so had to work with what I had.

Super efficient hull, probably go a few more. A few years ago on the Alli forums a guy was getting 75 GPS with a115.

This is what we need for young people to be able to get involved in our hobby. I assume that this is a "reasonable to insure" package which in turn makes it possible to finance. Low cost to operate, low cost to maintain, super dependable-looks like a win all the way around. I consider myself lucky to have been able to finance my first STV when I was 18 years old- the young guys can't do it today and paying cash for the working kid like myself was not an option.

I think Mark Smiley from Iowa is the guy that's played with both the XS and the SS with 115's for power. He told a story somewhere of beating a big Fountain or Baja with his V4 on the back - good stuff.

Here's my dads quote. The omc was a faststrike with a nosecone.
"Hey, we all love our Allisons but don't get weird. Anyway, define low HP. My Gs went 75ish with a omc 115 and 83 with the same motor on a SS. That gs went over 60 with 5 people aboard and the 115. 150 PM went 97 on the SS but never had on GS, suspect mid to high 80's. 225 pm went 106 on the ss and 95-6ish on the Gs. Full 2.5 goes 102-3ish on the Gs and hold on to your @#$% on a SS. I never really pressed a ss w/ big power. IMO they get funky (read: beyond my driving skill) at over 110. Some are in the high teens, not mine.

    Motors I've had on a GS: 2.4 BP carb, 260, 115 Johnson Fastrike, 225 PM, Yamaha 115, 2.5 carb. 2.5 z-port

    SS: 260, 115 Fastrike Johnson, Yamaha 115, 225 PM, 150 PM,

My favorite: 115 on the ss--got the big block guys scratching their heads. I never got around to it but a fully pumped, street gas, v4 would run close to 90."

I think your biggest issue here is the rev limiter. Awesome to see someone trying for speed and efficiency in new ways.

Thanks JCSmile. Love hearing about different engines on the Allisons.

The engine is just loafing making 150 HP. the ProXS version makes a little more power, at 200 more RPM, 163 on the dyno, vs 158 HP for the stock 150. Imagine if Mercury Racing worked on it? An affordable 175 R, or 200 R. Even the ProXS version with mounts and a sportmaster 1.75 would be killer, and very reasonable cost. I"m convinced the re-power market would be huge for an engine like that.

I had a merc 150 fishing motor 2s on a v21,very similar hulls, but different. It was a great river cruiser and good on gas it would run 70 with a stock lower and sat flat on the transom. After reading this post a 150pro xs maybe a consideration in the future. Thanks for all the info.
