Allison Grand Sport, Merc 150 gearcase mod
Thought I'd share an update on our Allison with a stock Merc 150. We did an article a little while ago about gearcase design, and how to improve the pointy nosecones commonly seen on aftermarket cone kits. I modified ours, with just a file, and some sanding. I rounded out the tip, and re did the skeg to improve it. We gained 2 MPH, although we are now hitting the rev limiter, so possibly more. But just thought I'd share in case you wanted to try it.

That's a nice rig! I had no idea a 150 fourstroke would run that good, and don't have to worry about blowing the motor up either, probably out last most two strokes.

That’s great. I agree with your thoughts in the article and believe you could see 80 by moving up to a 30”. Very cool project.

Ya, it's worthwhile on all pointy cones. We outlined a few reasons why in this article I'll link to. In general, it improves water flow, and reduces drag.
