Did you find a timing linkage?
And what's broken/missing exactly just the knob, spring or?

I would would try the elec pump and premix...4-5 # 90 gh is all you need..Holley red if you have one then wouldn't need regulator if you use a higher pressure pump need the regulator

Not yet. They are hard to come by. I have found one from a later model when they changed design. I have seen a few people online talk about them being interchangeable, but not sure on how to set it.
This is the kind I can get.

The threaded end of the linkage arm is whats broken. I have the knob, spring, stop, etc.

Watch for bubbles in both hoses. but if supply is clear, and discharge is foamy, you've got an internal leak. But make sure the pulse hose is tight and you have the blue pulse restrictor. Other that that start back with degreeing the flywheel and eliminating good ignition components from the equation.
I was looking at the fuel troubleshooting chart in the service manual today and noticed the pulse hose as a possible symptom. I have not looked at that. I know that I do have the blue one. Any chance the hose / restrictor could be blocked with ethanol crud? This motor has seen a good bit of it.

It's an easy step to check off your list. If it were here I'd just run the restrictor in the ultrasound for twenty minutes bathed in warm Seafoam blow it out and be done with it. But you can use plastic safe carb/injector cleaner as a soak. I use a cotton swab soaked in lacquer thinner and a .177 cal. ramrod to run through the hoses, then blow dry with compressed air. BUT! ... If you see rubber peelings coming off with the swab, replace the hose.

Oh and the newer ones you set it up just like the old ones but you turn the screw in and out instead of the plastic knob and nut locks it in place.. that's all

If you happen to find an extra I'd be happy to buy it off you!
Still not 100% on if I've got the timing set right.

I’m starting to wonder if I should discount the 5400 rpm run

i also hate 3000 rpm since that like warning mode reduced rpm but you have no buzzer and it never drops you to idle for serious stop now.

How many things can we disconnect ect on the electrical side and see if any or all clear it up. Temp wire , slow if it has it, that one wire for stator or trigger( I’m old need notes in front of these days)

i know now you have been through them, this is more did we miss one.

Well ... He could eliminate Overheat, No Oil, Vacuum switch, Kill switch wire under pack?, Isolate alternator Yellow wires from REG, unplug VRO, then fire up engine and disconnect Red Cannon plug ... That would pretty much isolate everything but the bare essentials!

Ha!...We've given this poor guy Sooo much to do his head's gonna explode!

What do you mean by discount? It haunts me for sure. It happened first time out after the post 20" conversion carb rebuild.

To refresh your memory, the trigger was replaced new back in 2012, not during the last year of throwing parts at it. Could it possibly have crapped out since? Im pretty sure I tested it but at this point I'm losing track myself. My need to start over from the beginning haha.

I like the idea of systematically eliminating things until something changes.

I was reading on another forum about a blocked pulse hose not allowing the VRO to pulse correctly. I am going to check it and clean the restrictor, but I would think if that were the case I would not be seeing 5-6 psi of fuel pressure. There is no surging or sputtering when I am running wide open, just steady crappy performance.

No AFTER. And it ran ok once, until I slowed down for a no wake. Then would not get back up in to the 5,000's.
